The Riches Mr and Mrs Harold Rich own a North Road cedar brick home completed in spring. It features a first floor plan with an open fireplace in the combined living and dining area a built in kitchen two bedrooms and a bath. A heated connected garage leads to the rear basement and landscaping includes nearly 160 shrubs and trees.
A solemn jury from Rittman High School found Karen Andre guilty of first degree murder in a staged courtroom drama The Night of January 16th directed by Gail Lance featured a 21 member senior cast with Ruth Webner Opal Cassidy and Ronald Boling among the performers The production deviated from comedy and offered balanced evidence for and against the accused with the audience leaning toward not guilty
Rittman High School senior class presents Night of January 16th for a second performance Friday May 19. An audience of 400 is expected and tickets are available at H Thomas Drug Store Monday 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The show starts at 7 15 p.m according to Miss Lance.
Altman board of education rehired the entire teaching personnel except one candidate Miss Mary Crowley. Superintendent Garver recommended rehiring all teachers and the board approved. Custodians and a secretary were also rehired. A science teacher may fill the one vacancy.
Superintendent W A Garver announces the senior class trip to Washington with a Greyhound charter. The itinerary runs June 12 to 15 including Gettysburg battlefield stop, public building tours, the War Memorial Museum visit, Lincoln Memorial Arlington Air Vernon sites, and return to Rittman via Cumberland and Uniontown.
Four Wittman men Ralph Overholt CM Wenger Ed Woyat and Yoe Sherrick will officially open the Hastings fishing season in Canada. They will leave Rittman early Sunday to be on hand when the season opens Monday morning. The late group made the same trip last year and a lovely time was had.
The Howard A. Bair Post No. 423 American Legion outlines Memorial Day events for May 30. A 11 am service at Rittman cemetery features speaker Rev Paul J. Carter. a parade forms at 9:45 am from the south end and proceeds to the public square led by the band.
Real estate mortgages recorded in Wayne County in April totaled 93 for 207716, compiled by the Wayne County Abstract Co. First Federal Savings & Loan Association of Wooster led with 17 mortgages for 37525. Farmers Banking Co. of Sterling had one for 8000 and Stebbina Banking Co. of Creston two for 3250.
Leona Norton aged 34 wife of Theo dore Norton died suddenly from a heart attack at 4 30 p m this morning at her Ebihot street home. She had just returned home after an 11 day hospital stay for appendicitis surgery at Wadsworth hospital. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 p m at A I Ebert Funeral Home. Burial in Burbank cemetery. Mrs Norton lived in Rittman 16 years. Her husband works at Ohio Boxboard Co.
J. Houlette vice president in charge of production at the Ohio Boxboard Co. resigns and will sever connections immediately. He came here three years ago from Pharis Tire & Rubber Co. of Newark. His home is Mansfield and he has lived at the Sigler Hotel while managing the plant. Successor and plans will be announced next week in the Press.
Misa Helen Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs James Miller of Ster lig is chosen as an attendant for the May Queen event at Ashland College Day on Saturday May 20.
E M Welch of B Oftfo avenue named president of the Rittman Rotary Club to take office July 1 succeeding Ernest Harrigan. The board also elected C A Rhonemus vice president and Ed Elsags secretary treasurer. New directors include W A Garver J J Gannon A H Thomas Ed Bilesos and B M Welch.
Mr and Mrs Charles Zollinger announce the birth of a son to Rev D North last Saturday morning May 6. Mr and Mrs Jay Griffith report a son born Wednesday morning May 10 at Wadsworth Hospital.
Raymond Rogers of Rittman was among 232 students at Ohio State University College of Arts and Sciences named to the winter quarter honor roll.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Anastolic church for Doris Hartzler 12 of Rittman who died Saturday at Wadsworth hospital from injuries when a cultivator roller dragged her beneath it while working on her father Vir Wartzler's farm four miles southwest of Rittman. She died about 2:20 p.m. at the hospital. Surviving are her parents and Bevan brothers and sisters. A I Ebert had charge of arrangements.
Mrs Rebecca Navin Bower, mother of Emerson Davis of Rittman, died Sunday night in Wooster. Funeral rites were held Wednesday at McConnell Funeral Home with Pastor Lanna officiating. Survivors include a daughter Mia Aquia Warnes of Clinton, Emerson of Witman, Marion Davis of Lowville NY, and five sisters Della Trushel Sadie Baxter Kate Baxter Mere Viana Plaxter and Ofra Mary Merrict of Jetiroy Onto.
Miss Helen Heitbrink Westinghouse home economist will direct Homemaking School in Doylestown high school auditorium Tuesday May 14 at 8 p m and in Rittman City Hall Wednesday. Sponsored by Dannemiller Radios Electric in Doylestown and The Murrow Power Co in Rittman. Leisure for living theme with a technicolor movie. Admission free.
J H Fisher Agency reports negotiations for renting the former Alex Thom building on Ohlo Avenue are complete. Moore & Rich, Plymouth agents in Rittman, expect occupancy this week. the A&P market previously housed there.
Akron orchestra from Jatmie Miller will perform in Seville on Saturday May 13 during a neighborhood dance night. The event features the 1piece estieen ensemble with plans for a lively program.
City council heard from Contthot that first concrete will be poured next Monday with workmen starting on Pirat atl and THago nat streets. Crang st, Murdock drive, and bank alley will follow as crews move equipment and dust concerns prompt council action.
Mayor Roy Dalor and the council will hold a special session Monday night May 18 in the council room at City Hall to discuss building code. Contractors electricians plumbers and builders are urged to attend so the important matter may be settled. Community groups have urged an ordinance to set standard building practices and provide for inspections.
Fr Farrell and a representative of the First Brethren Church join a council inquiry into reducing special assessments or granting exemptions for three churches affected by street improvements. The Presbyterian board offers to pay in full after petitioning for the work. The matter is tabled as uniform assessments are urged. Sewer and water connections on West First Street are to be completed, and paving is deferred. A special meeting is set for next Monday at Clay Hall with contractors and builders. The safety chair pushes moving an unused hydrant from White City to North Seneca Street extension.
Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Eberwein 88 longtime Creston resident were held Tuesday at 2 p m at Murray Funeral Chapel. Rev H S Stout and Rev W P Michel officiated. She came to the area as a small child fromBwitzer and lived in Wayne County most of her life. Her husband Victor Eberwein died years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church and is survived by daughter and husband Saclas Alfred of Barberton Victor of Cleveland and Emi of Creston nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren Eight children preceded her in death.
The Rittman Garden Club meeting scheduled for Friday May 15 is postponed to Friday June 2. Mr Frank Johnson of Parma will present color movies of Florida at the meeting.
