Hilltop School Contract Awards Nearing Groundbreaking

The ittman Board of Education approved bids for the hilltop grade school and high school addition. Theo Bogner and Son of Wooster wins the hilltop contract around 200000 dollars. Plumber Swagler of Seville and Dutt Electric of Sharon Center secure joint bids for their trades. General addition contract goes to W. B. Gibson C. of Warren at about 332370 dollars. Construction may start within 30 days with completion 9 months to a year.

Registration Open for Rittman Kindergartners This Fall

Rittman school officials announced registration is now open for all children who will be five years old by September 15, 1956 to enter kindergarten. Parents should call Mrs. Hilty with the child’s name birth date and guardian details. First graders entering this fall must have a complete physical exam, facilitated by the Wayne County Health Department and your family physician.

Rittman Hosts Local Vehicle Safety Check Event

Police Chief Charles Heffelman announces the city co sponsors a voluntary vehicle safety check with the Rittman Chamber of Commerce. Check lanes run May 22 23 1 to 4 PM and May 24 6 to 9 PM inspecting brakes lights tires steering exhaust windshield wipers and more. Volunteers welcome from service groups and garages will issue safety stickers to compliant cars.

Rittman High Band Banquet Honors 1956-57 Leaders

Rittman High School band members and guests enjoyed a turkey dinner Monday in the school cafeteria. Band Mothers Club sponsored the event with speakers by Supt. Hauenstein and others, led by president Rhetta Armhurst as program chair. Officers elected for 1956-57 include Jane Emch president, Sandra Kohler secretary, and Allan Mills treasurer.

Community Auction Pick-up Days Set by Rittman Lions

The Rittman Lions and Boosters Club announce pickup days May 22 23 and 24 for their annual community auction planned for June. Residents may contribute any items and all proceeds benefit the Lions Sight Saving program and Booster Club athletics. Call 300 or 145K to arrange pickup if days are inconvenient.

Rittman High School hosts its annual May Festival Friday at 7 30 pm in the gym. Music directed by Miss Carolyn Swope and Vernon Reeder features a May Queen crowning with Karen Badager by Sheila Walker and a court including Jerry Miracle Sally Day Rosemarie Bostanic Jim Lambert June Brown and others. A record dance by the senior class follows.

Bloodmobile Set for Rittman Area on May 16

The Bloodmobile will operate Wednesday May 16 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Home E Sunset Dr serving Rittman Doylestown Sterling and Creston. Coordinators urge about 200 donors due to cancellations with committees named for recruitment transport canteen and scheduling. Local nurses and volunteers will staff the drive with area churches handling canteen service.

Local Police Court Fines handed for intoxication and unlicensed driving

Primary election shows 10 percent turnout in Rittman area

Extremely light turnout marks the county primary with about 172 Republicans and 150 Democrats in five Rittman precincts and one township. Sheriff Glen Rike wins a third term by 160 votes. no Democratic challenger for sheriff. County results list several offices with party nominees, including DiSalle and ONeill for governor and McSweeney defeating Bow locally for Congress.

Ben Maibach Dies After Heart Attack at 69

Ben Maibach of Sterling, born Monroe County, dies at 69 after a heart attack en route to a hospital. He was a longtime farmer and dairyman, retired in 1951, and later worked summers at Sterlig Farm Equipment Co. Services were held Monday at Apostolic Christian Church south of Rittman with Rev. Noah Bauman officiating. He is survived by wife Della, five daughters, three sons, 35 grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers. one daughter and son preceded him in death. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Gold Star Mothers Move to Rittman Area

Gold Star Mothers who have moved into the Rittman area within the past year are asked to call Mrs Donald Kimes, Fredrick Sr., at 330X. Plans were under way for Memorial Day observances by the American Legion Auxiliary with the Gold Star Mothers to participate.

Water shortage alarms Rittman Wadsworth industries

Thirty four leaders from Rittman and Wadsworth met at the Rittman American Legion Hall to address critical drought driven water shortages threatening industrial output. Ohio Forestry Association reps and Bob Schmidt of the Akron Development Commission discussed state efforts and the need for new water sources to attract and sustain industry. Derby entry deadline for All American Soap Box Derby

Rittman boys must register at Strickland's Chevrolet Garage by May 15 to enter the All American Soap Box Derby. Three locals Art Hall Jack Bigler and Bruce Wertz have registered. Winners advance to the county runoff July 22 and the Akron August race with prizes including a college scholarship.
