Birds near the feeder describe spring migration and plumage of male and female evening grosbeaks. Local notices list hospital stays, births, weddings, visits, and family events including Blanken ship's Vietnam leave and a wedding in Rittman.
At Monday's board meeting president Robert Stoll announced Robert Stucky will become high school principal in Cuyahoga Falls, succeeding Hauenstein. Stucky has held roles in Salem Delaware and Painesville with strong ties to mathematics education and administration.
Rittman Education Association and the Rittman Board of Education closed salary negotiations. Beginning teachers with a bachelor’s degree will start at 6000 per year rising to 8880 in 11 years, and those with a master’s degree begin at 6540 rising to 10050 in 12 years. The schedule uses a degree based index and yields about seven percent across the board.

Rittrnam Police issued thirteen tickets for storing automotive and other trash in back yards. Ordinance 4402 carries a daily fine of five to fifty dollars after notice. During Clean-Up week city crews pick up debris on streets north of Ohio Avenue and Rittman Road today and Friday, with south-area pickups Thursday. Morton Salt Co cleaned a west pond using a 24 hour drag line, followed by street washing.
City Manager Macauley Gosney announces two hour art classes will drop from $2 to $1 to broaden participation, with pottery making added for the first time. Russell Muzyczka will supervise, guiding beginners to enjoy form and color without aiming to become professional artists.
Follow up inspections under Rittman’s newly adopted housing code will start this month on 15 to 20 dwellings and apartments. Preliminary checks occurred in March on 10 single dwellings and 10 apartment units. owners have 60 days to meet the code standards.
Four instrumental groups from Rittman High and Elementary School perform Friday at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. The program includes Castles in Spain and Village Charm by students, plus works by Cacavas Haydn Mozart Kabalevsky Berlioz Bach and Ganz.
L. K. Burnett was named to the Wadsworth Rittman Hospital board of directors at a recent meeting. C. G. Haulk was appointed to a committee to plan for the dedication and open house. The hospital will be completed by Sept 24. Haulk represents Milton Township Trustees on the board. Burnett will replace Mrs Lindsey Williams who served six years. Next meeting is Monday May 19 at 7 30 in the hospital dining room.
Vernon Phillips representing Rotary Club seeks Chamber approval for a September festival in Rittman. Chamber members respond affirmatively at Tuesday morning meeting, with Rotary planning the event.
Kroger Food Company said the Rittman store has no plans to sell beer and wine. Local manager Richard Ingman explained the listing was an error tied to other stores whose applications were tabled during liquor control negotiations. The store had been removed from the list at the request of local churches years earlier.
