Commission May Hire Professional Planners For Rittman
The Rittman Planning Commission at a Tuesday night meeting urged hiring a professional planning agency to study current zoning and plan for the future. City Manager Charles Mann will check costs and potential federal funds. Ohio has $260,141 allocated statewide with $168,000 already earmarked. The panel also favors expanding R2 residential zones near downtown to allow more apartment buildings as industry supports needed housing. The solicitor will study legal limits and which zoning authority takes precedence between city and township before moving forward.

A meeting of local clubs and organizations with the Rittman Friends of the Library will be held Tuesday May 9 to discuss raising 8500 toward the new library purchase. Hubert Squibbs says information material will be distributed and the West Ohio Avenue library is to be completed this summer. Wayne County Library Board will provide 25000 of the 33500 price. locals must raise the rest by the completion date.

Public Hearing On Watershed Plan In Rittman May 26
A public hearing will be held at 11 am May 26 at Rittman City Hall to review the Chippewa Watershed Subdistrict flood control dam plan. Objections can be raised then. final approval may follow from Conservancy Court in New Philadelphia. Project features include eight earth dams, with several pools and drought protections, aiming to complete by 1966. The US Department of Agriculture would contribute about $1.7 million, with the rest locally raised. An ultimate goal is a 1300 acre reservoir between Rittman and Wadsworth costing about $3 million, funded by bonds repayable from water sales.

Skraba Indicted By Grand Jury in Fatal Route 3 Crash
Mike Skraba of Rittman indicted by Wayne County Grand Jury on second degree manslaughter in the April 2 traffic death of Daniel Snyder. Snyder was killed at a Route 3 and County Road 70 intersection when Skraba’s car allegedly failed to stop. Skraba claims brake failure. Trial date not set. he is free on $500 bond.
