President Lyndon Johnson Seeks Ohio Editor by Letter

A small Ohio weekly received a terse notice from the President ordering induction into the Armed Forces. The editor Fran Sandrock will be replaced by Ruth Black handling ads as the paper notes details elsewhere. May 10 set as the draft date with local reaction mixed.

Beyer Wounded in Vietnam Report from Ron Beyer Family

Ronald J Beyer, son of Mr and Mrs Joel Beyer of 50 West Liberty, reported injuries in Vietnam. In a letter to his parents he said he received arm chest and head wounds in a night attack on April 15. He is recuperating as an outpatient on base. He had been released from a base hospital in April after pneumonia, originally reported as malaria. Mrs May Wilson Expires In Ariz

Mrs May Wilson 78 formerly of 216 Grandview died in Phoenix Arizona where she moved three years ago She lived in Rittman forty years and was born in Allen Icky She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Rittman and the Methodist Church in Phoenix Her husband Charles E Wilson former president of Rittman Savings Bank and a local agent died in 1964 Surviving are three daughters Elaine Hickin Leroy Rose Nalbandian Scottsdale and Betty Riggs Phoenix two brothers and eight grandchildren A son Ray died in 1962

Parman Named Medina Gas Branch Manager

Glenn C. Parman of Rittman has been promoted to Medina branch manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio, with D. E. Barr noting a successor in Rittman will be named soon. Parman, born January 12, 1921, joined the company in 1948 and has risen through service, supervisory roles, and local civic posts. He and wife Mary Lois reside at 35 N. Hickin with three children.

Mellich Services Held Tuesday for Steve Mellich

Services were Tuesday for Steve Mellich 72 of Rittman Ohio at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Barberton. Mellich a 33 year employee of Ohio Boxboard Company retired seven years ago died unexpectedly Saturday at his home. He lived in Rittman 37 years born in Russia and survived by four daughters four sons and seven grandchildren and a brother in Russia. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery. Gillman Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Sterlingite Teen Hurt in Wooster three car crash

Sterlingite high school student Jim Wirth 16 son of Mr and Mrs Roy Wirth of Sterling is in Wooster Community Hospital with a broken jaw and slight concussion after a Friday evening three car crash. He will be transferred to an Akron dental clinic for further treatment this week. Wirth attempted to pass a car driven by Richard A Johnson 36 of West Salem and collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by James Zimmermann of Purbank a passenger in the Wirth car was also taken to Wooster Hospital. The Wirth car swerved back into the right lane lost control left the road on the right and skidded into the path of a car driven by Aretha Bushbee of Wooster.

Rittman Voters Approve City Income Tax Renewal

In Rittman town Tuesday voters renewed the city income tax at one half of one percent, passing 779 to 228. The count shows broad support across precincts with Precinct Four close at 67 in favor to 62 opposed and Precinct Twelve at 194 for to 4 against.

The Ohio Department of Highways announces an area spraying plan for May 16 17 and 18 across Precincts Three Five Six Seven Eight Nine. Households may opt out by placing Do Not Spray at the start of their property and Resume Spraying at the end.

Rittman High to honor top scholar athlete at All Sports Banquet

The Rittman High School All Sports Banquet Thursday will award the Rittman Press Award for outstanding athlete scholar. About 250 to 309 guests are expected in the high school auditorium at 6 30 p m. The Booster Club and Jaycees sponsor the event with a buffet by Cleckner's. Coaches Wesley Péterman Donald Ritchie Homer Pyle and Mrs Pat Witzberger will present and Booster Club president Kenneth Robbins will speak.

Bettman Press announces new news deadlines starting this week with 9 am Saturday morning cutoff for church and club news. Pictures for next week should be scheduled by Thursday noon and items mailed or brought in whenever possible. Names of all persons involved should be included with who what where when why and how.

Bids Awarded for Woodsworth Rittman Hospital Construction

Bids for the Woodsworth Rittman Hospital project were awarded this week with Alessio Construction Company of Akron named general contractor at 1,391,330. The base bid covers the main building and alternates add a parking lot and exterior signs. Plumbing and heating go to Seastead Plumbing and Heating. electrical work to John P Novathy Electric. Grand total: 2,658,?7332. Hill Burton funds and bonds cover 2,500,000. remaining funds to be raised. Blatter notes bids meet expectations and a May 3 contract meeting will finalize papers. Alessio also building Medina County Court House.
