Birds blamed for power outage at sub station
Electric power was shut off to more than 2 000 homes on Sunday afternoon for about an hour and a half as birds built wire nests at the sub station and caused a short. Power was restored around 2 00 pm after the 12 30 pm outage.
Musser Hughes vie in primary for Milton mayoral seat
Expect a tight race between Ed Musser and Milton Hughes Jr for the Republican nomination for mayor. Musser, a long time resident and former Milton township trustee, leads public service roles including cemetery board, public affairs, building and zoning inspector, and church and civic ties. Hughes, a nine year resident and Ohio Boxboard Company foreman, previously served four years as Justice of the Peace and belongs to local management circles.

Houglan, current councilman for two years, seeks the Democratic nomination for mayor. He moved to Rittman in 1940 and lives with his wife. they have two married daughters and a son in college. He led the Lions, helped form the club, and held Masonic and Eastern Star roles. He runs a carpentry business for 30 years and served 17 years on the local fire department. Clarence Kunkler, life resident, has 20 years in public office, 14 on council, and chairs several boards. He lives at 147 Grandview Blvd with his wife Sadie, chairs the park and finance committees, and works as an electrician for Ohio Boxboard Company.

DAR clippings win state award for press exhibit
News clippings on the Daughters of the American Revolution featured in the Rittman Press earned the State DAR first prize. The exhibit, prepared by Laurabelle Mooney, Bowling Green art supervisor and former Rittman teacher, was aided by Mrs. Clyde Semler and collected from Northeast Ohio newspapers. Virginia Simon of Stowe, a former Rittman resident and district regent, attended the national DAR meeting in Washington from April 15 to 20.
