Rittman Flags Honor for Liberty Loan Subscriptio

Today Rittman raises a 70 foot pole and honor flag at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Main Street for doubling her Liberty Loan subscription. A parade forms at 3 pm led by the Ohio Boxboard Co. band with workers, business leaders, and public groups marching to the school and flag pole for Judge Werganat of Wooster to deliver a patriotic speech.

Spelling Match Finishes For High Schools In County

Saturday’s county spelling event at Wooster college saw only the high school teams finish. Shreve high school won both oral and written cups, with several contestants remaining in each grade. County Superintendent Baumgardner announced a continuation at the courthouse next Saturday May 4.

Lancetown School Closes as Boone Ends Milestone Year

Emmet Boone, who taught Lancetown school this year, closes the district school Friday May 3. Enrollment stands at about 35 pupils and the year has been successful for both pupils and teacher. Boone presents each pupil a souvenir card engraved with all names. He has taught two years in Milton township and been very successful.

New Registration Day Set For June 5

June 5 marks the anniversary of the first registration day and will likely be the date when men aged 21 since June 5, 1917 must register under the new law now in effect. It is estimated that about 500 men in Wayne County will register for military service under this act.

Wayne County Men Head to Camp Sherman
