J. W. Hartel aged 71 a longtime Doylestown resident died at home Saturday and was buried Monday. He ran a piano business in Doylestown Wadsworth and Barberton and served in civic affairs. At his death he was a director in the Doylestown bank, survived by his wife one daughter and five grandchildren.
Wednesday evening 22 carloads of Negro railroad laborers arrived near Rittman to perform extended road repairs for the Baltimore and Ohio Railway Company. Embankment repair and rail unit replacements will be the main work.
The Ohio State Highway Department awarded a contract worth 76,287 dollars to a firm from Holmes County for paving and bridge work along the corridor linking the Cleveland Rim road with State Route 94. The project includes widening and straightening a dangerous curve near Ritman and shaping approaches. Also announced is a State approval to widen routes 94 and 86, with 94 widened on both sides and 36 extended, improving the south intersection approaches.
The sister-in-law of Mrs Derthick suffered a stroke on Easter Sunday and has since declined, with little hope for recovery. Relatives including Diya Dorthick and Ralph Martin, along with Mrs Derthick’s Toledo-based kin, gathered as medical staff and family monitored her condition.
