Orrville Youth Pleads Guilty in Crash at Third and Ohio

Orrville youth David Walker, 18, pleaded guilty in mayor’s court to reckless driving after a Wednesday crash at Third Street and Ohio Avenue. His 1952 Ford struck a 1952 Pontiac driven by Allen Arnold, causing heavy damage. no injuries were reported. He was fined 40 dollars plus costs, with 30 dollars suspended, and 3 dollars plus costs for failure to stop. The road was noted as slippery that night.

Two New Members Join Moose Club Session at Moose Home

The Moose club held a regular meeting at the Moose home on S Main St with new members Mrs Everett Workman and Mrs Helen Kinder. Mrs Catherine Snyder received a mystery package and committees were named to audit books, plan a chicken dinner for April 24, and discuss a rummage sale for May 8. A special Sunday sing at First Baptist Church in Rittman featuring Southern Harmony Quartet from Bowling Green Ky and Guiding Light Quartet was announced.

Services Held For Eugene Helms

Services were held at the Church of Christ Sunday for Cpl. Eugene Helms who died in a Korean prison camp. Frederick's Funeral Home supervised the services under the officiation of Evangelist Arley Barnhouse Alliance Ohio. The American Legion presented a military honor guard.

Manning to conduct Rittman High School spring concert

Manning will lead the Rittman High School concert band in a spring concert Friday April 2 at 8 p m in the school auditorium. Guest conductor Manring will feature Virginia Wenger as soloist on baritone horn with pieces Carnival of Venice The Cricket and the Bullfrog duet Joanne Blatter Janet Gwaltney and Dick Gillman will narrate The Three Bears. Manring, a Ball State and Western Reserve alumnus, has directed bands and judged contests across several states. Condt on Page 6.

D of A Holds Excellent Rating for Akron Leader

Mrs Flossie Wilson of Akron received an excellent rating after an inspection at Rohrer Hall. State and National officers attended, two new members were initiated, gifts were given to visiting officers, and a silver shower celebrated the occasion with a St Patrick’s motif. A books audit was planned for April 6 at Mrs Yoder’s home.

Bloodmobile visit prompts Rittman donor drive update

Local donors awaited the Red Cross Bloodmobile with 12 noon to 6 pm slots. Mrs Bodager reported strong cooperation despite a prior delay caused by miscommunication with Red Cross officials over scheduling. Lenel Lendy, a high donor from Rittman, has given 14 pints and offered more if needed. Bodager is the second highest donor.

Death of Zelda Hoover in Wadsworth Hospital

Zelda Mae Hoover died of heart disease at Wadsworth Hospital Monday night at 9 30. She was 92, born in Sterling and lived much of her life in Rittman. Survived by husband Bloyd Hoover and daughters Marlys Smith Jean Liple Rita Siudseven Marjorie Collier and Rita Lance. services Thursday at 2 pm in the First Brethren Church with Rev Charles Ashman and burial at Rittman Cemetery.

Welcome Wagon Hostess Leads Newcomer Welcome Effort

Mrs Lewis K Burnett of 91 N Fifth St will head the Welcome Wagon in Rittman to greet newcomers. The organization, with 4000+ hostesses and 35 000 sponsors, makes about a million calls annually across 1250 cities and offers church and civic information, gifts, and hospitality to new residents and families.

Youth Soap Box Derby Registration at Strickland's Chevrolet

Registrations are being taken at Hugh s Strickland's Chevrolet Co Inc for youths aged 9 to 12 to enter this year s soap box derby. No registration fee but a $12 standard wheel is required and a racer may spend up to ten dollars more with full self construction. Akron Beacon Journal sponsor Jack McGuire presented derby footage to Rittman students and thirty expressed interest in joining. Local merchants may sponsor a boy by funding wheels and parts, with the sponsor s name printed on the racer. The Rittman Press offers aid to youths unable to fundraise, naming Tom Stromauk of Medina Street as example and inviting sponsors to call.

Tiny Toy Terrier Tippy Weighs 1 Pound 9 Ounces

The small toy terrier named Tippy weighs 1 lb 9 oz and is six months old. Described as the most intelligent dog the Johnsons have loaned to town, the pet was a Christmas present from Mrs. Johnson’s husband.

Panel Discussion on Presbyterian Work Among Spanish Americans

Miss Virginia Weager and Carolyn Wald led a church panel on Presbyterian work among Spanish and American peoples. Westminster Guild met Tuesday in the church social rooms and planned a joint meeting with three other missionary groups for Tuesday April 27. Betty Simcharpe led devotionals. Rittman Clergymen Support Public Welfare Organization

Rittman clergymen urged forming a local welfare committee to aid needy families, criticizing landlords and urging city officials, church groups, and residents to cooperate. They cited housing, sanitation, and moral concerns and backed coordinated church and civic action to improve living conditions.
