A second meeting of residents to form a local welfare committee will be held at City Hall Friday April 1 at 8 pm announced Harold Rich president of the Chamber of Commerce. Members seek adult education recreation visiting nurse and home maker programs and better coordination with county welfare offices.
Mildred Amstutz will perform Crucified My Lord at the Community Service Concert by the Ohio Match Singers. The program, directed by Bob Harry, is set for Sunday evening at 7:30 in the Wadsworth High School Auditorium. Residents of Rittman and nearby areas are invited.
Eleven Rittman men helped organize a Knights of Columbus Council for Wadsworth and Rittman regions at the Wadsworth Recreation Center. James Dwyer was elected Deputy Grand Knight and A J Springer of Wadsworth named grand knight. Second and third degrees set for April 3 at Sacred Heart Church parish hall.
Clayton Kunkler, partner of the Rittman Pleasant View Dairy, announced Thursday that milk prices will be reduced by one cent starting Friday.
The Style Show sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary drew about two hundred attendees last Friday, described as the biggest and best ever in Rittman. Narrator Mrs Ralph Overholt introduced gowns while Pat Smith did hair. Fam ily Shoe Store provided shoes and Annat's of Wooster the gowns. Amelia Rohrer performed, Delores O'Brien sang, and Helen Rupp and companions modeled wedding and bridesmaid gowns. Door prizes, donated by local merchants, were awarded by Hester Britton and Milly Noble to a slate of winners listed in the caption.
Incorporation application filed in Columbus for Russell Riggs Inc of Rittman with 250 shares no par value. Incorporators named are Russell Riggs Charles E. Wilson and Sylvia Hardgrove. Filing attorney listed as C E Rhonemus of Rittman.
Eight Fight employees receive 434 dollars in awards for suggestions to produce a better product at lower cost through the Boxboard system. Recipients include Harold W Bigger at 120 N Main St 242 dollars Margaret McCullough gluers 96 dollars Lee Morton 127 Wright St printing department 36 dollars Delmar Cotton 214 E Circuit 1 and 2 mill 15 dollars Ellis Garver Fredrick St 3 and 4 mill 10 dollars Ernest Wald 71 N 2nd St 10 dollars Ray Simons cutting department 10 dollars and K L Workman 5 dollars.
Graham Hagey announces to Chamber of Commerce directors that widening and resurfacing of Route 94 will not proceed this spring per state plans. Advance word says the project may be rescheduled after a stop at the Ashland Highways Office. Delegation from Rittman including Hagey Osborne Freed and Rhonemus to decide next steps. Mr and Mrs Edman Nabb visited Bethesda relatives for the weekend.
Rittman area employment remains near 1948 highs with the Ohio Boxboard Co listing 1725 workers and Morton Salt at 209. Officials say the region holds up better than many areas after recent elections, and rehiring continues to meet order demand for milk coolers and hone freters.
Jane Rolph was elected May queen by Rittman High School students for the May Festival on May 19 at the athletic field. Ethel Coffman will be maid of honor, with attendants Glenna Christian Margaret Grant Dotui Frey Charlotte Ruble Mary Squibbs Deloris O'Brien Dorothy Adams and Virginia Kick.
A public hearing on a proposed larger sewer for the Fairlawn Ave area was scheduled. Grant Shibley testified last Monday that the current 6 inch sewer would fail during heavy rains. Sam Ruble sought flood damage relief for his property, referred to specialists Clarence Kunkler and K W Osborn. Rats extermination at Brookfield Housing project was referred to Osborne.
