New Bus Schedule Starts Saturday in Rittman

Zane Transit Lines to operate six northbound and five southbound buses between Cleveland and Zanesville starting Saturday April 1. Ohio Public Utilities Commission approval replaces part of Greyhound Lines schedule as withdrawn. Northbound departures include 5:49 a.m. and 10:41 a.m. and 2:11 p.m. and 3:31 p.m. except Sunday, 4:45 p.m. and 9:11 p.m. Southbound routes via Wooster depart 9:09 a.m. and 11:08 a.m. except Sunday, 1:09 p.m., 2:54 p.m., and 6:59 p.m. except Sunday.

Council Hears Talk On Parking Meters

Representatives of the Union Metal Co. described the Dual Parking Meter to the council. J McCormack said meters could solve Rittman’s parking problem and be funded from revenues for a trial period. He cited a university survey showing 31 minutes average parking time and noted costs around 64 to 66 dollars. No action was taken.

Former Rittmanite Faces Deportation

Manuel Perez, who swam the Rio Grande twice to join his family, faces deportation for the fifth time after arriving in 1945 and marrying in Rittman. His wife acts on his behalf at the hearing while lawyer B B Greenwood argues urging relief for his wife and two children Estralita and Manuel. Immigration officials say Perez has not supported the family recently and Wayne County records show 60 days jailed for assault with a butcher knife in 1947. Perez testified he was drunk and unaware during the incident.

Newest Rittman Resident Edward Lavery Arrives

Edward Lavery and family move to Rittman from Kent Ohio after coming from Kent State University. He works with National Life and Accident Insurance Co. Lavery served in the Navy during the war and helps promote boxing shows with his father who was once Ohio flyweight champion. He and his wife Barbara rent an apartment and plan to buy or build a home. They have two children Douglas and Kathy aged 34 months and 2 1/2 years.
