The Rittman Fire Department booster committee calls a meeting in the council room on Thursday night April 6 at 4 30 sharp. The purpose is to reorganize the department and arrange purchase of needed firefighting apparatus. Citizens urged to attend and share ideas to improve local fire protection.
The Wayne County Republicans hosted a Wooster banquet this week to rival the Democrats Jackson Day event. Speaker Simon D. W. Tes3 of Yellow Springs, a current U.S. Representative and possible Senate candidate, addressed attendees as others from the area traveled to attend. The gathering was deemed a pronounced success.
Local supporters welcomed Boy Scout ideals amid a county led effort to form a Rittman troop. Verne Gebhart was named chair of a fundraising and promotion committee as leaders urged boys to gain truthfulness and service through scouting. The Rittman team affirms with Wayne Darby Alice Anderson Iyla Biers Martha Smith as alternates to meet a Doylestown negative team in the high school auditorium Friday evening March 31. A Creston high school team competes at Creston the same night with Clark Murphy Evelyn Harter and Glenn Swartz as alternates. A declamatory and oratorical contest follows.
On Tuesday this week Frank H Gruver took over the Beery Restaurant previously run by G A Beery while Reuben Beery purchased Gruver’s Rittman Transfer Co. Gruver had operated the transfer business for over a year. The Beery restaurant cooking by Mrs Beery was cited as the reason for the exchange.
Milton Township will install two culverts funded by the county with C P Strong of Wooster as the low bidder. The Goffinet culvert costs 1068.17 dollars and the Trester overflow construction 601.30 dollars. Completion will improve road drainage and reduce mud on roads south of town.
The Sunshine Class of UV B Sunday School hosted by Mrs Henry Londy held a two to four o'clock gathering Saturday. After games and refreshments, attendees included Faye Dull Thelma Zurcher Dale Biker Katherine Carpenter Eloise Sehar Ruth Lenarz Florence Lendy twelve Lendy Mantere Dale Turner Charles Stoolmiller Harold Steiner Leland Lendy and Ralph Lendy.
Real estate firm Galehouse and Wein announced plans to relocate to larger rooms in the Wein block. The move occurred Monday this week to gain privacy and accommodate increased business. The former offices were judged too small for their activities.

Our local school head attended the convention held in Columbia late last week. School superintendents and principals from the state were present and the meeting proved worthwhile. Plans discussed may be put in effect in the coming term. Local schools rank well with other towns and have improved this year.
A well attended public sale at the Shoots farm on Inst. Thiraday, conducted by L. C. Shoots as administrator of the U. G. Shoots estate, drew many local farmers. Goods were in fine condition and sold at fair prices with many tools and implements present.
The first consignment of bonus checks came from the Department of Adjusted Compensation in Columbus this week. Soldiers anxiously anticipated the funds to relieve their anxiety and support their families.
Announcement states intent to withdraw from general medical practice starting April first with closing of all outstanding accounts. Dr F W Hickin says office hours will continue evenings, but hours shift from 4 20 to 6 20.
