Goldie R Branstetter 81 of 285 N Seneca St Rittman died Sunday at Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital after a 2 week stay. Born May 22 1891 in Benton Co Mo to Hilrey and Sarah Morgan she lived in Kansas and Colorado before moving here 46 years ago. Surviving husband L Allen former Rittman Street Commissioner and foster son Len Meek of Louisburg Kaw. Services Wednesday at 1 30 p m from Gillman Funeral Home with Revs William A Leith and William F Echols officiating. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

The Rittman Choir and Band earned Superior ratings at the district contest held at Peninsula Jr. High, qualifying for the State event in April. The choir, in Ci class, performed Go Lovely Go Rose, Thanks Be To Thee, and The Dove of Peace, with 63 members. Wayhedale and Smithville also competed. The band scored four consecutive ones at Woodridge High School.

Diabetes Testing Comes to Rittman
The Diabetes Testing Program headlines Rittman this week with technicians at the PCA from 10 am to 5 pm on March 27 and at Morton Salt Company from 8:30 am to 3 pm on March 28. The two day event offers community glucose screenings and diabetes awareness. In district Band Contest news, Gary Kleptach directs Rittman’s band, earning its third straight C-1 superior rating and a possible State Contest berth on April 14. The ensemble performed High Plains Concert March by Nelhybel, Spring from the Seasons, and Symphony in One Movement by Giovannini, receiving high praise from judges.

Council Considers French And Holt for Rittman City Manager
Rittman council again stalled on selecting a new city manager as two candidates Kern French and Brodrick Holt failed to gain a majority. Four councillors supported French and two opposed. Holt drew six votes against. Pay figures were discussed with French at about 13 900 including increases, Holt asking 15 000. A special session or next meeting may pursue a unanimous choice. Earlier, Harold Reader outlined sewage plant pump issues and the plan to reuse salvaged pumps from the old plant.

Grace Bechler 80 Dies After Long Illness at Wooster Hospital
Grace Bechler 80 of 29 S Main St died Tuesday at Wooster Community Hospital after a long illness. Born November 2 1892 in Akron she lived in Creston Sterling and Rittman before moving to the area.
