A chaotic collage notes brewery orders and altered laws, with references to Prohibition shifts, 105 and five case deliveries, and a Georgia jury trial involving a Joker slayng. Hollywood Mae Murray court censure and Smoot censorship debates appear, plus playful jabs at Congress and Ford.
Rittman High School auditorium hosted a two act operetta All Baba and the Forty Thieves last Tuesday. A large audience praised the cast and the high school orchestra. Cast includes Ali Baba, Morgiana, Cassim, and Abdul Hassan with a student chorus and a full production team.
Miss Mildred Gerberich of Rittman was guest of honor at a nine table bridge shower hosted by Miss Thelma Pavlier at the Ohio Boxboard Company club room. Prizes went to Mrs Leicher Iris Hiers and Marjorie Williams. Guests included Mrs Yocum of Wooster and out of town attendees from Wooster Wadsworth Norton Center and Akron.
Mrs Lucille Quimby thanks relatives friends and neighbors and the WBA for flowers sent during her hospital confinement acknowledging their kindness in a brief note.
Mr Nealy the Acme store manager welcomed a 9 pound son on Wednesday at Wadsworth hospital. Mrs Nealy has been receiving bouquets while Mr Nealy enjoys the title Dad amid increased store business and a new assistant manager.
R Frank Kitts of Rittman, a light heavy weight contender, signs to fight Jack Becker from Cleveland in a six round main event at the Mies Royal Theatre Akron next Thursday evening. Promoter Gray promotes a seven bout card.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Gish and Byron Gish returned from a Florida trip last week. The family enjoyed southern scenery, noted tourist attractions, and pleasant rides, traveling by bus and taking in the state’s towers and landmarks.
Two local mothers Mrs. Francis C in pinger and Mrs. Barbara Climpinger of Rittman will join a New York departure May 10 to travel to Europe. The trip is government authorized and financed. Elmer Climpinger and Howard Bair, both killed in France, are honored by the pilgrimage with the USS President Harding carrying the party. Local American Legion posts coordinate with officials and agencies for the voyage.
The Rittman Fire Department plans an entertainment program at Rittman High School auditorium on Friday evening April 11. The Hillbilly Harmonies will perform popular numbers heard on WAY Cleveland radio. Elaine and Sis, known radio performers, are featured on their program, with Krites on banjo and guitar from Station WFIC Akron.
The Rittman basketball team visited the Rotary Club Thursday for an annual dinner prepared by U B Church ladies. Coach Mose Shole of Wooster College entertained players and members with humorous remarks praising athletic effort.
Robert Joel, a former Rittman boy, has been elected to the National Honor Society at Akron Central High School. Election is based on scholarship and leadership with additional roles in school activities. He is a member of the National Journalistic Society, Quill and Scroll, Square and Scroll, Boys Glee Club, and the Inter-High Press Association. He serves as Associate Editor on the school paper The Forge.
John Ramsier residing north of Rittman married Saturday at 3 o clock at the Apostolic church south of town in the presence of a large gathering. Rev Noah Hartzler spoke the words. The couple then shared a wedding feast with about fifty guests at the home of Fred Pauman. May they enjoy many years together.
Cleve land based Southwestern and Light Co has disposed of holdings to United States Engineering Corporation. The move prompts questions on UTIC policy and rates. Myers vice president assures no change in policy or rate increases. United States Engineering Co is a New York corporation.
John H. Fisher of Rittman showed moving pictures from his Canada trip and lectured to about 150 men at West Salem banquet honoring Vermin Hunt prize winners in three townships. Attorney Wayne W. Garver of Rittman also spoke.
Professor J C Meyer of Wertarn Reserve University Cleveland will lecture on The London Conference at the Presbyterian church Tuesday evening April The noted historian known as Jake Meyer will present an instructive and engaging talk in town Tickets are on sale at Thomas Drus and proceeds benefit the Presbyterian Aid program.
Miss Leona Young domestic science teacher at the Hamlet schools mourns the death of her husband as he slumped and died of apoplexy while returning from an errand with the family. Funeral honors were paid by Supt Garver and local officials. Miss Young, an only child, remains with her mother through the week.
The Walton League of America Wayne County chapter held a charter night with an enthusiastic audience and speakers Prigo Randall and Cres ton Wig. The program opened at 8:18 pm with singing then speeches praised the group’s aims to promote wildlife conservation and outdoor heritage. The meeting invited nearby chapters to attend and preview Walton League film showings of fishing scenes to inspire members.
The 89 year old William Burbage who died at his Spencer home after living in West Salem forty years is survived by his wife two sons William of Wailsworth and Thomas of Spencer and a grandson. He was a Civil War veteran and Mason. Funeral services were held at his Spencer home Thursday afternoon with Masonic burial at West Salem cemetery.
