Rittman Forms Local Board of Trade Organizing Meeting

An organizing meeting in Rittman led to the formation of a local Board of Trade. Ralph Overholt was elected president and Mayor Fr. B. Hanes named secretary. A constitution and by-laws will be adopted, with a follow up meeting planned within two weeks. About 30 to 35 members of the Warne Medina Milk Producers Association met in the directors room of the Rittman Savings Bank on Monday to plan a cooperative milk sub station. A committee will select a suitable site to prepare milk for shipment and to set terms with the Akwon association to avoid conflict.

Obituary of James Louis Turneroa

James Louis Turneroa aged 74 years and 25 days died after a March 17 stroke. Born in Coshocton to Israel Turner and Lydia Miser, he married Laura Holderbaum in 1880 and had seven daughters and two sons. He farmed in Coshocton Tuscarawas and Wayne counties, moved to Rittman in 1908, worked for Ohio Salt Co and Ohio Boxboard Co until 1931, then retired. Survived by children Charles, Frank, Lester, and six daughters, plus 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, with siblings Charles Turner Mrs Jay Chubb and Mrs G F McCammant. He died at his son’s home in Sterling after residence with his daughter Mrs RH Blough of Rittman.

Scholarship Contest Top Two From Rittman High School

Rittman high school placed two contestants in the top quarter of a county scholarship contest held in Wooster on Saturday. Robert Dull ranked fifth and Stephen Dostal seventh with little preparation. Milton J Krabill of Sterling won first award. he also tied for top rank last year.

Busy Bible Class Holds Monthly Meeting

The Busy Bible class of the U B Busy Bible Class held its monthly gathering at Mrs. Diamond Eggeman’s Second Street home last Thursday evening. Mrs. J C Stutzman led with a study on Christian teaching on social and economical questions, followed by talks and songs. The meeting closed with entertainment and refreshments and a humorous reading by Mrs. Melvin Beachy.

Mrs. Sarah Ellen Smith Dies in Leavittsburg

Mrs. Sarah Ellen Smith 73 died at her Leavittsburg home Saturday after a short pneumonia illness. Born March 5 1859 in Sterling Ohio, she was daughter of Albert J and Sarah Hollowell Lance. She lived in Warren 36 years, moved to Leavittsburg six months ago, and belonged to Women of the Moose and Heart Legion. Survived by daughters Maude James Ruth Strock and Pearl Herlinger, all of Warren and Leavittsburg, sons Harry and Claude Smith of Warren, 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Several relatives live in Rittman and Sterling.

Ervin Hikes, a man-driver for Fraser Young, was burned on the face yesterday when a gasoline hose ignited by a battery wire contact. The fire flashed briefly from the hose end but burns were not deep.
