Community notices mix opera plans and local events

Local readers learn of Gwen Kunkler and SBM Clayton Kunkler in a Bob Voner University Opera Association chorus to perform Belini’s Norma at the university auditorium on March 32 and 25. Linda Hile Chosen as Girls' State Delegate

Linda Hile, a junior and daughter of Mr and Mrs James Hile of 34 North Main Street, was named Lions' Club delegate to Girls' State with Diana Steiner as alternate. Hile is active in school and church, member of band and chorus, FHA and Pep Club, vice president of the Speech Club, and CYH president. Steiner, daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernon Steiner, is secretary and treasurer of the Spanish Club, Librarian's Club president, and student life editor, a majorette in the music ensemble, and church member. Sue Rohrer was named American Legion Auxiliary delegate to Girls' State last week.

Athletics Will Continue At Rittman High School Game

The Rittman School Board decided to continue athletics at Rittman High School after reviewing unsportsmanlike fan conduct at Northwest Rittman. They praised the team and coach Ashton Hall for good behavior this season and at the Canton tournament, warning fans to improve or face consequences. No letters from Canton tournament director Ralph Masonbrink or Ohio High School Commissioner of Athletics were received, per officials. The board will reconsider the Manske report on clerical duties and salaries at the regular meeting on April 12.

Easter Season Services Begin On Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks the start of Easter season with annual Rittman High School music department vespers under Virs Marion Warren. Union services are sponsored by the Rittman Ministerial Association with Good Friday at First Baptist Church 1 30 to 3 p m and Easter sunrise at Milton Presbyterian Church 6 30 am led by Rev James Taylor. Palm Sunday program features mixed chorus and soloist Marsha Harris at 3 pm in the High School Auditorium with songs including Holy Lord God and The Palms.

Rittman Chamber to push plan on parking meters vote

The Rittman Chamber of Commerce will present a proposal Monday night aimed at keeping meters out of town. President James Frye and Vice-President David Wright will outline five parking developments since the mayor’s call for a vote. Merchants pledge funds for off street sites and enforcement and will keep cars off streets. Efforts include securing the RV Fredrick lot for a future off street lot and negotiating for an old post office site. Engineering Associates say meters needed only near the square. other proposals are under study. A postcard survey shows 677 oppose meters and 84 favor.

Father of Local Man, Is Buried

Funeral services were held Tuesday for Arthur Richard Green bank 77 of RD 1 Sterling who died Saturday evening at Barberton Citizens Hospital He was a native of Lewisville Ohio in Monroe County and engaged in farming He had resided in the Rittman Sterling area 15 years on Route 604 south of Rittman He was a member of the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church His wife Rachel preceded him in death in 1957 One daughter Blanche died in 1918 He leaves three sons Chester Rittman Gordon of Barberton Clyde of Orrville two daughters Mrs Mildred Board of Barberton and Mrs Phyllis Geiser of Sterling and 19 grandchildren Rev Noah Bauman officiated at services with burial in the church cemetery.

Council To Discuss Plant Advertising

City Manager Charles Mann says council will discuss advertising for construction bids on the new sewage treatment plant addition at Monday's meeting. Finance and utilities committees met to study Stillson and Associates plans. engineers estimate the project at 273000 dollars, though bids may come in lower.

Rittman Band Seeks State shot at district contest

Rittman High School Band under Eugene Sharick performs this Saturday at Akron University in the District Band Contest. The program includes Two Etudes Thendara Overture and Loyalty March. Bands rated 1 superior advance to the state contest in Columbus.

Annual PTA Minstrel Show Editor Reviews

The PTA Minstrel Show at St Gene is a lively annual program now mostly a musical revue. Editor Sharick led the production with long hours evident in the polished acts and strong choruses. The Sound of Music aria and Do Re Mi impressed, though end men were reduced this year, leaving the crowd satisfied with a full house nightly.
