Police Question Three Suspects In Local Break-In

A Rittman man and two juveniles are questioned after a break-in at the Rittman Laundromat early Tuesday. Owner John McCormac says $70 in change was taken and two coin changers damaged, with an estimated $200 loss. Patrolman Joe Figura spotted the break-in at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Wayne County Sheriff Department investigates a theft at the Hub Cafe in Sterling Tuesday night.

Rotary Club Sponsors Visit Of Three Ring Circus

Mills Bros three ring circus, sponsored by the Rittman Rotary Club, comes to town June 23 for two performances to aid crippled and handicapped children. Stars from 18 nations perform in all rings with dancing girls, Liberty Horses, elephants, high trapeze, clowns and more.

C of C Survey Indicates Meters Not Wanted

Early returns from the Chamber of Commerce survey show Rittman residents oppose parking meters with 365 against and 48 for. The chamber mailed post cards to every household to gather opinions. Mayor Hougiard set a March 27 deadline for enforcement proposal review and council vote.

Garbage users can be fined under city health ordinance

Council warns residents that using garbage as fertilizer in gardens violates city health codes. The ordinance imposes a 25 dollar fine for disposal or use of garbage in gardening and cites complaints from Monday's meeting.

Sue Rohrer Elected To Girl's State

Sue Rohrer was selected as delegate to Buckeye Girls State by the American Legion Auxiliary at the legion hall. Marilyn Laurer was named alternate. a second delegate, sponsored by Lions Club, will be announced later. Rohrer is active in F T A and several clubs. Laurer is a National Merit Society member active in church youth groups.

Plane Trouble Delays PCA Traveler in Cleveland and New York

Russ Lewis of the PCA faced a five hour delay after engine trouble near St Louis canceled his Cleveland departure. He switched to a 9 p.m United flight that later experienced an engine fire on takeoff. Passengers evacuated via a nylon chute as the plane departed three hours late, and his New York hotel reservation was canceled. He returned home Wednesday night to attend his daughter's Minstrel practice.

Post Office Seeks Site For Rittman Facility Amid Debates

Nine sites are under review for a new Rittman post office with the School Board property on North Main Street eyed as the preferred site. Post Office official George Forbes backs it, while Superintendent William Hauenstein notes land size shape and frontage must be finalized. The board may sell to a public facility seen as a community benefit, with funds aiding local school expansion. Other candidates include sites at Industrial and College, East Ohio, Medina, and surrounding blocks, with a continuation on Page 2.

Rittman Ministerial Association again sponsors Union Easter services this year with Good Friday services from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on March 24 at First Baptist Church under the theme The Hour Is Come. Speakers cover The Hour of Preparation, The Hour of Presentation, and The Hour of Provisions with special music. Township Fire Pact Expands Smithville Coverage

Milton Township signs an agreement with Smithville to improve fire protection for fifty households served by Smithville. Milton will pay 150 dollars yearly plus 50 dollars per call. Smithville will respond to alarms, then coordinate with Rittman or Sterling fire stations before Smithville crews return to base.

School Board weighs dropping athletics after Canton game

Rittman High may cancel all inter school athletics after fans at the Rittman Northwest basketball game threw money and booed for minutes. Board members will discuss the issue next Wednesday while also reviewing administrative salaries. The district apologized for fan conduct and signaled a hard look at future competition.
