The Rittman Press Easter coloring contest invites children under 14 to submit two cartoons using crayons pencil or paint. Entries must come from this week or last week’s cartoons or be distributed through schools with complete rules on page six. Winning prizes include deluxe notebooks and boxes of crayons.
Last Thursday afternoon a fire gutted the Thonen Street home of Mr and Mrs Roy Brickey. Their seven year old son and the couple, new to Rittman, lost most furnishings and clothing with no insurance. Numerous donations of clothing food and money arrived from coworkers neighbors and church members. The Ohio Boxboard Workers union gave 50 and Semler Products and Chevrolet plant workers contributed undisclosed sums. The Brickeys are in temporary furnished housing and seek a rental property up to 50 dollars a month within three weeks. Contacts: Brickey 243K or the Rittman Press.
Holy Thursday confessions at 6 p m and the 7 p m mass will open the Easter season services at St Ann's Catholic Church.
Rittman housewives have until March 31 to enter the local Mrs America contest sponsored by Ohio Fuel Gas Co. Winners advance to a district cook off in Elyria, then state contest in Columbus, with the Mrs Ohio winner earning a Florida trip and extensive prizes. Judging focuses on homemaking, personality and appearance.
The annual Red Cross fundraising drive expands as new volunteers join local efforts. Added since last week are Mrs. Boyd Miller Mrs. John Volek Miss Annette Geborsky and Miss Cynthia Wright with solicitors and captains reports still incomplete at press time.
Woodrow Smith was bound over to the Wayne County Grand Jury on a $500 bond. He faces charges with two others in breaking and entering the high school. Ralph West received $25 fine plus costs for reckless driving.
Good Friday services will be held at the Wesleyan Methodist Church on Fairlawn Ave from 1 30 to 3 pm. The talks cover the three R s of the Cross with Rev D B Pasigeen Rev Albert Henry and Rev Virgil Snyder delivering the sermons. Local clergy will preside in the first thirty minutes second period and final period. The public is invited to attend any or all periods.
The annual Boosters Club athletic banquet will be held Thursday April 5 at 6 30 p m at the American Legion Hall announced by L L Slim Wilmot Mose Hole Wooster College athletic director and head basketball coach will speak Special guests include Rittman High Varsity football team varsity and reserve basketball teams managers coaches and cheerleaders Public invited tickets are $1 75 from Wilmot
The Recreation Advisory Board plans an Easter Sunday egg hunt at 3 pm in Rittman Central Park with two age groups under six and six to ten. Lyn Castor Marilyn Harrington will run the games. prizes for each group include two dozen prize eggs in cases of rain move to the Recreation Hall on N Main St.
Rittman High School seniors declare April 8 15 as work week to raise funds for the annual class trip. They will accept odd jobs such as babysitting car washing house cleaning and window washing with earnings going to the class fund. Interested employers should contact seniors listed by house number and name.
A handsome modern school building costing $40,000 has been erected. It is fire proof and commodious with recitation rooms gymnasium toilet rooms and an auditorium seating 400 opera chairs. The article notes the importance of the new facility for the community.

He criticized overprotection and urged parental involvement, noting most trouble arises from juniors and urging use of the Recreation Center and Junior Achievement programs to provide constructive outlets.
The Friendship Class of the First Church of Christ hosts a box social on Friday March 23 at 7 30 p m in the church social rooms with Trent The magician and Tri County Ladies Quartet providing entertainment. Various local groups schedule meetings March 26 27 28 including American Legion Auxiliary Daughters of America St Johns Study Club Future Teachers of America Rittman Recreation Advisory Council and a Duplicate Bridge Club gathering.
J A Blatter, 13 years old, died after a heart attack at home and died in Wadsworth Hospital. He was born in Monroe County and lived in Rittman. Survived by wife Emma and children Kula Martha David, plus siblings and grandchildren. Funeral at First Brethren Church with burial in Rittman Cemetery.
