Drive to collect funds for new library initiative
A long range appeal for funds to build the Rittman library launched this week with a sign-board at the future library site near the Recreation Center on N Main St. Friends of the Library mailed donation pleas and bequests. Endowment Committee reports about $1,050 in three donations. George contributed lettering for the sign. Open House planned during National Library Week with readings and children's hour scheduled for March 22 at 1 30 to 2 30.

Mrs. Avery Kinch reports the Rittman Library is seeking 80 000 to fund a new building. Plans include cash donations bequests and a future bond issue. Site donated by the Board of Education and parking planned. A tax deductible gift to the library supports a lasting memorial and potential room or wing naming. Grove City, near Columbus, built an 80 000 library two years ago from similar funds.

Libraries seek more tax money for county libraries
County officials say 172000 in intangible taxes were collected last year and about 69000 was diverted to libraries while the remainder went to towns and cities. State law allows all or part of intangible taxes to support libraries. Attendees at the Doylestown conference included Charles Summers and others from library friends groups and village leadership.

Rev Henry to retire after 25 years at First Church of God
Reverend Albert Henry will leave the First Church of God on April 15 after serving 25 years. He and wife Estella plan to move to Riceland Trailer Camp and work with residents of Apple Creek State Hospital. The couple will be honored March 2 and will begin vacation before the official retirement. Henry began ministry in 1830 and helped build the church, moving from Ston Church of God programs to the upstairs A. L. Ebert Store, then to a basement church by 1941. He is a Benton native, moved to Smithville in 1900, and is survived by Estella Cheery, a daughter in Jeromesville, three sons, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

At a crowded meeting of middle north district women in Canton Ohio workshop attendees heard labor leader John S Johns United Steel Workers district director argue against allowing a vote on the state constitutional right to work amendment. He contended average voters are uninformed anti union and that only workers should vote. Blair countered noting wage gains in right to work states and that laws would make unions more accountable. Rittman groups discuss teachers salaries meeting planned

The 1958 PTA Minstrel show drew sell out crowds Friday and Saturday with enthusiastic approval. The musical numbers were praised as perhaps the best yet and jokes were well received.
