In a Rittman scene Jimmy Hopton pulls a name from a Lucky Barrel at a local shop and Mary Willems is announced as the $400 winner. Rich Hopton, Jimmy’s father, appears with Mary in a photo on the front page as the town celebrates.
Junior Achievement hosts a Monday evening event from 7 to 9 at the center on North State Street. The public may attend. refreshments are served. JA will host sales booths showing Jet-It Rite Lite and Pacoa production with all steps on view. Wayne County Bookmobile stops in Sterling from 8 45 a m to 1 p m and at Norwayne High School from 1 30 p m to 3 30 p m Thursday.
Area school officials from Norwayne Dol yestown and Smithville set a March 29 meeting to discuss reviving a regional trade and industrial school with a Kent State University professor to speak. Smithville joins the group. budgets for 1965-66 top $743,757, with prior years around $500k-$640k.
Marion L Bechtel 43 of RD 1 Rittman killed in Canton industrial accident. Funeral Thursday at 2 p.m. Gillman Funeral Home with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Survived by wife Ruth two sons Harvey Brice two brothers and four sisters. Friends may call Wednesday 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. He was a Heckett Engineering employee and Army WWII veteran Purple Heart recipient. Born October 21 1921 in Williamsburg PA.
The PTA produced minstrel event runs Thursday to Saturday at 8 p m in Rittman High School auditorium. The 11th annual show features a New Orleans theme with 90 chorus voices and a Dixie Land Band. Tickets remain at local stores and via Dee Goffinet.
The American Lesson Hall hosts a gun coin and antique show this Saturday and Sunday. Sponsored by the Rittman JayCees, Ohio dealers display wares with coins auctioned at 1 pm daily. Hours run 9 am to 6 pm Saturday and noon to 6 pm Sunday. Admission is free. Call 925-2551 or 925-3911 for details.
Ohio state development figures show Rittman up to 6128 residents from 3410 in 1960, an increase of about 140 people per year. Doselstown, Creston, and Marshallville also gained residents, while Wayne County totals rose by 7328 since 1960 official census.
Wayne County board of elections in Wooster requires residents who did not vote in the past two years to revalidate their registration. Officials say only about one third of 1574 cards mailed have been returned. others must visit the board office in person to Update records.
