OEA state competition honors listed among Ohio colleges
State competition of Office Education Association students was held at Wayne General and Technical College on February 28. Thirteen winners emerged from 113 participants representing four technical colleges in Ohio. Stef Zivick of Rittman earned second in Secretary II and fifth in job application. Glen Adams spotted a bluebird in his yard at 70 W Ohio Ave. Gary and Diane Griffith welcomed a son, Stephen Lawrence, born at Elyria Memorial Hospital on March 3, weighing 8 lbs. The family resides in Elyria. Lance Corporal Wayne B. Broadbridge of Creston has been promoted while serving at the Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, SC. Mr and Mrs Hilbert Boothe were surprised by a visit from Mrs Boothe's mother and relatives. Mr Owen is hospitalized in Coalmont, Tennessee. Cadet Girl Scout Troop 918 plans a pop bottle drive to fund a Gettysburg trip. Linda Schaffter visits her brother in Florida. Mr and Mrs Paul Juilleret will spend a week at St Thomas in the Virgin Islands to study improving their Shady Rest Nursing Home.

The Rittman Exempted Village Board of Education held a second special meeting and executive session to discuss progress in negotiations. City Eyes Suit Against Edison CB Thefts On The Rise
A string of thefts and break ins reported between February 21 and March 5 across Rittman and nearby areas includes CB radios stolen from trucks on Palo and Sheldon avenues, vehicle break ins on Villa Boulevard, a window busted to steal items, and a private residence window damaged with drawers gone through. The Rittman Bicentennial Commission launched an $18,000 campaign to restore the Gish Homestead as a permanent reminder of Rittman heritage. Funds will build a foundation and basement with a community room, gift shop, and terrace. The project will restore the Western Reserve style home and may include a barn, blacksmith shop, and cooperage. initial gifts total $100 from the Delta Club and $3,000 from the Rotary Club.
