The Rittman Board of Education discussed boosting the maximum teacher salary from 3150 to address competitive gaps, while lower pay scales compare well with peers. They will seek more data before action and explore cafeteria changes with architect estimates. A building tour, shelving adds for storage, and the next five year levy renewal were also planned.
The Senior High School Clarinet Quartet led by Jane Rolph Shirley Gwaltney Virginia Lance and Marjorie Hoover will enter the School Solo and Ensemble Contest at Baldwin Wallace College on Saturday March 11. The Senior Sextet Ethel Coffman Evelyn Wagner Delores O Brien Betty Widmer Geraldine Smith Connie Campbell will also attend with Sleep Sleep Beauty Bright. The Junior Sextet Violet Weabrick Lynnette Winkler Elaine Bodager Nancy Widmer Jo Ann Radtke Carolyn Hoover will attend with Of Gods Returning Spring. Mrs June Hottenstein is Glee Club Director. On Friday March 10 at 3 00 PM William Hacker will present a piano program to students.
Don Houglan and Dick Heiks led Rittman Senior Class in selling seals for the Light Conservation program. A total of $280.35 was received with 25 percent allocated to the class fund. The entire class participated. W. W. H. Hauenstein chaired the Lions Club committee.
An editorial urges Rittman to welcome 375 visiting Rotarians and the Rotary International president next Monday. The piece praises the city’s hospitality, growth, and its chance to shine among 54 northeastern Ohio clubs as host for this district meeting.
Rittman will broadcast the tournament game for local fans on WWST-FM sponsored by Rittman Department Store. The Indians drew a bye in the first round and will play Friday night around 9 30.
Miss Lena and Fannie Miller of Route 1 Rittman Ohio pre clinical nursing students at The Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing will receive white caps at exercises in Hensel Halls Franklin Marshall College Lancaster on Tuesday March 14 at 815 pm. The event marks the end of six months pre clinical training and the start of a 2 1 2 year clinical course. Car R Long of Rittman serving with Company E 19th Infantry Regiment in Fyushu Japan has been promoted to corporal after scoring highly on competitive exams in the Infantry Career Field.
About 375 Rotarians from more than 50 cities will gather at Rittman high school for a banquet honoring Percy Hodgson Rotary International president. Officials note plans include a past district governors meeting and a prebanquet reception.
The Erie Railroad announces trains No 8 and No 7 resume after coal shortage. Train 8 leaves Rittman at 6 09 am Thursday March 9 for the first run. Train 7 departs Rittman at 6 39 pm Friday March 10 for its initial service.
Lawson Milk Co. launches its first Waynes Bay store at 18 N Main St. J C Smith will manage, moving from Ak ron. The shop offers gallon milk jug dairy products baked goods bread cold meats butter eggs and selected groceries with daily hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Edward Stromach of Rittman fined 500 dollars and costs for stop sign violation. Glen Landis fined 500 dollars and costs with costs suspended. Allen Sherwin fined 500 dollars and costs with costs suspended. Robert L. Thomas fined 1000 dollars and costs for reckless rising. Thomas fined 500 dollars and costs with costs suspended. Wayne Metzger fined 500 dollars and costs with costs suspended. Ranor Shooke of Rittman fined 5 dollars and costs with costs suspended.
Daughter born to Mr and Mrs Paul Aberegg in Doylestown on March 6 and another daughter born to Mr and Mrs Robert Gardiner in Rittman on March 8.
The Easter Seal drive begins in Wayne County with the Wayne County Crippled Children’s Committee backed by local Rotary clubs. George Sandrock and John J Williams lead Rittman delegation as seals are mailed to every area family with a return envelope. County chair Al Berger of Wooster spearheads the campaign to raise funds for cripiled children including transportation to hospitals and equipment like wheelchairs.
Olla Podrida Club marked its 25th anniversary with a Tuesday evening gathering at Mrs Ed Musser's home. Charter members Mrs A L. Ebert and Mrs H. S. Squibbs were honored. program featured club history, prophecy, and a humorous reading. Donations were voted to Red Cross, March of Dimes, and the Penny Art Fund.
