Local Coal Problem Being Well Handled In Rittman

Through cooperation of Morton Salt Ohio Boxboard Co and Village officials Rittman’s coal situation is improving. Hershey and Rohrer, largest local dealer, report stock available to meet urgent needs while Ohio companies cut requirements to help. George Sandrock notes fluctuating coal prices and poor grade but says supplies will suffice. he urges not to order more if already stocked. Dealers are nine up on orders and optimistic about the future.

Wayne County Red Cross Campaign Sets $20 000 Goal

The 1950 Red Cross drive aims for $67 000 000 nationally with Gen George C Marshall leading. Wayne County is asked to raise $20 000, starting March 1 with a tea at United Brethren Church and a kickoff by Rev Eugene Buxton and Mrs Wanda Emerson.

Daley's Fur niture and Appliance Store Grand Opening

Daley's new furniture and carpeting store opens Saturday at South Main Street Rittman opposite its old location. Remodeling and fixtures create a fresh look with several new lines including Hotpoint appliances. Don Emch leads a larger staff for a welcoming committee with drawings and roses for all ladies.

Doris Mae Bauman Celebrates Sixth Birthday Party

Doris Mae Bauman daughter of Mr and Mrs Marvin Battman celebrated her sixth birthday on Tuesday afternoon with four party games and contests. Twenty guests attended and traditional birthday refreshments were served.

Style Show Date Set For March 16

Five dollars was donated to the Xenia Home at Xenia Ohio by the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Monday night at the Legion Home. The next meeting March 18 will be Anniversary Night with husbands invited. The Auxiliary Style Show will be held Thursday March 16 with Mrs John Hodovan as chairman.

Blue-Gold Banquet Draws Cub Scouts and Guests

The annual Blue and Gold banquet for Cub Scouts was held Tuesday at the Legion Home with about 50 guests. Lions Club donated ham and Mrs Paul Bracht provided a three tier cake. Decorations featured blue and gold with slow mums and blue candles. The meal was buffet style, prepared by parents. Guests included Den Chief Paul Matey and Richard Gillman. program featured a piano procession, speeches, poems, a style show, and Cub songs.

Rittman Village Council mulls street name and ordinances

Village council discussed naming North First Street Terrace extension but half the street is owned by the village. They approved finishing the project and dedicating the street later. A license ordinance change was debated to issue licenses to individuals only and a new 500 gpm pump was approved to aid drainage. Parking study planned along Main Street. Additional items include village funds depository and salary ordinance amendments.

More Bus Service Coming To Rittman

Zane Titnest Co will add four daily through buses from Zanesville to Cleveland and two Wooster to Cleveland services. Rittman will have six buses each day with one early and one late trip, starting April 15, routing via Route 94 to Route 3 to Cleveland. No Akron connection currently planned.

Indians Favored To Reach Finals In Hardwood Clash

The Rittman Indians open the season Friday night at Ashland college gym facing Hayesville in the first round. The winners advance to meet Chipps of Doylestown in a Saturday double header to decide the sectional champs. Wayne County entries are favored to reach the finals based on stronger records and the Red Cross drive seeks support.
