Publisher notes reprint of January story to let readers judge whether background material was omitted. The Rittman Board of Education faced bids 20 percent above estimates for the high school addition, with lowest bids about 723572 dollars, risking the planned hilltop grade school and bond financed real estate.

Local organizations schedule anniversary dinners, guest speakers, and meetings across the week. American Legion Auxiliary hosts an anniversary dinner with Mrs Hargy, Mrs Adams, and Mrs Silvery assisting. Wayne County Child Welfare Board guest speaker planned. Other groups like Pilgrim church women and Garden Club plan talks on shrubs and horticulture. Moose and Daughters of America also announce gatherings and inspections.
Mrs. Ralph Gwaltney is named local chairman for the 1956 Red Cross fund drive with solicitations starting March 18 for one week. Wayne County aims for 27 810 dollars while rural areas like Rittman set a 2 000 dollar quota, reflecting a ten percent increase. The drive covers ten programs including disaster, blood, nursing, first aid and more.
Harry Ditch and Karl Gillman led Class A doubles with 1208 during the third weekend at Red Man Alleys Lorain. Other strong finishes included Schaad and Thompkins 1060, Baker and Fixler 1062, Wites and Halliwell 1134, Chenal and Kamp 9A, and McConnell and Turner 1041 in the Horeier Division. High all events saw Ditch 1729 and Gillman 1738. McConnell Shell fourth in Booster with 2587.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Matteson Funeral Home in West Salem for Mrs. Ida Wilkinson 95 who died Monday after a weeklong illness at Wadsworth hospital. She was born to Samuel and Mary Eicher and lived mostly near West Salem, later with her niece Mrs. C G Haulk in Rittman. She belonged to the West Salem Methodist church and its Woman's Society of Christian Service. Surviving are two nieces Mrs J B Palmer of Inglewood California and Mrs W J Louisman of Cleveland and a nephew L C Eicher of Rocky River. Interment was in Congress Cemetery. The Happy Crusaders Class of the First Church of Christ plans a skating party at Madisonburg on Thursday March 15, then returns to the Elkins home for refreshments.
The Rittman Press defends its January story about architect Spahn amid his charge of unfair reporting. The paper says 1250 readers fund the $40,000 school project fee and 2500 area residents expect future architecht bids. It defends press openness and public access to government actions.
Rittman Board of Education refused Spahn and Barnes request for a closed session to bar the Press reporter. Architect Ronnie Spahn hinted at a libel suit over a January 5 article while board members defended open meetings and discussed bids and plans for the high school addition.
Rittman High School seniors Robert Carey Jr Dan Steiner Richard Gillman and Donald Goffinet earned honorable mention by ranking in the top quarter on the general scholarship test taken in Wooster earlier this year.
Palmer Dolph of the Ohio Boxboard Co. was admitted to Wadsworth Hospital Monday afternoon after suffering a heart attack at work. At press time his condition was reported as fairly good.
Rittman Evangelical United Brethren Church plans a full day of observances led by Bishop Fred L Dennis. The 10:30 a.m. service features his sermon The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth and a 2 p.m. program with Zionaires Quartet and Melodians. A 5:15 p.m. fellowship supper follows. Events are open to the public.
