A local column reports on Margaret in Ponce Puerto Rico venting about language barriers and home features with locks gates and washing arrangements. It lists Legion dinner details, club meetings and social notes, plus births and hospital stays in the Wooster area.
The Rittman City Council plans a decisive vote tonight on selling a North Main Street parcel 80 feet wide adjoining Diversion Hall for a new post office. The school board weighed selling for years but may still keep the land for school uses or future needs.
The Rittman girls basketball team hosts a bake sale at Rittman Savings Bank this Saturday starting at 9 a.m. A cake baked by Mrs Agnes Grieves will be raffled at 11 a.m. Proceeds fund travel and bariquet expenses for the team.
Firemen's Auxiliary met Tuesday to vote a donation to the Heart Fund. Mrs Wel don Hardgrove was hostess. Five members awarded the mystery package to Mrs Frank Burns. Refreshments were served. Mrs Glenn Parman will be hostess for the March 9 meeting.
A loud call from Mel Goffinet announces a two and a half week lead up to a minstrel show. Tickets are selling fast with limited seats each night, urging locals not to miss the performance.
Tuesday night the Cub Scout Pack 3405 handed out many awards including gold arrows to John Gish Jim Kimes Ben Imhoff and a silver arrow to Ed Heffelman. Dennis Burkhart earned lion badge Mike Angelo bobcat Frank Bostancic bear Bruce Trogdon denner badge Carlier Schwab and David Shank earned year pins.
Rittman High School will join four bands in a Band in the Round Friday at Norton High School. Rittman opens at 8 p.m. with four classification groups including B-2. Proceeds stay at the local school. Other participants are Manchester Barberton and Norton High Schools.Tickets cost 75 cents adults 50 cents students.
Teen Queen Peggy Lutz will crown the 1965 National Campers and Hikers Queen at a Cincinnati convention May 21 23. Lutz became national Queen last July at Cuyaoga Falls. The group plans several events including attendance at the Bowl ing Green Kentucky national convention July 19 22 and a March 28 dinner meeting in Lodi. Pack Mor chapter adds Rollin Jones Sr as VP Glen Haller assists secretary and treasurer. Bolero jackets are cut for each family member and monogrammed later by a Spencer firm.
City council discusses timing for an income tax measure as a May ballot option, with through May vote possible if charter rules allow. The plan includes a 0.5 to 1 percent tax, impacts on property taxes, and a seven year capital improvements program linked to the tax revenue.
The Rittman Advisory Committee invites interested citizens to City Hall on Thursday at 7 30 p m for a recreation study update. George Lipp of Akron will speak along with Frank Anderson of West Akron YMCA. Seven sub committees will guide future activities including summer activities led by Kenneth Plahuta and adult recreation led by Jaime Pereira.
Mrs. Vincent Hartzler of 219 Ritter Drive was released from Wooster Hospital Wednesday after a collision with a second car near a parked garbage truck at a hill crest between Smithville and Madisonburg. She sustained cuts and bruises.
Hazel Damron is expected to be named city clerk and secretary to City Manager Will Laughlin in Rittman. She would take the duties March 8 if appointed, replacing Judith Sears who resigned after four months. Damron, of 43 North Metzger Avenue, has worked at Packaging Corporation of America and serves as secretary of the Rittman Chamber of Commerce.
Wadsworth Rittman Hospital Board authorized purchase of an X-ray image amplifier with television hookup to enhance cancer detection and bone setting. Dr. Aris W Franklin noted improved viewing of moving organs, reduced radiation, and faster, continuous observation during examinations. Administrator William Rundle said the device keeps the hospital at the forefront of medical advancement and could be moved to a new facility. (Continued on Page 3A)
