Arson Charge Dropped as Newassel Sentenced for Concealed Weapons

Joe Novassel of Rittapan, held on arson and concealed weapons accusations, pleaded guilty to carrying concealed weapons before Judge Critchfield. He receives an indeterminate penitentiary term with potential parole after about 9 months for good behavior, while the arson indictment is noted but not pursued. Sheriff Miller will transfer him to Columbus when papers are ready.

Crop report shows 1914 farm value down despite higher output

The crop reporting board released estimates for 1914 US term crops covering 14 items on 300 782 000 acres. Farm value totals 4 946 000 000 dollars, up 10 percent in production but down 20 million in value from 1913. Cotton and wheat set records. cotton yield up but price per pound fell.

Rittman Youth Sues Farmer for Malicious Prosecution

Platte Sigler of Rittman sues farmer John J. Gish for $2006.80 alleging malicious prosecution. The suit, filed in Cotton Pleas Court, follows a Mansfield stop and a grand jury refusal to find evidence against Sigler after he was arrested on a warrant connected to chickens likely stolen during winter travel.

Dorland Dies in Lew and Rittman School Bids Opened

F E Dorland longtime Rittman resident died at his brother John Hattman’s Lew home after returning to visit family. Pneumonia followed illness and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church with Rev Hobart officiating. Interment was at Koaupp cemetery. Obituary for Ladue Winstatz Steer a faithful mother

Ladue Winstatz Steer died peacefully at her father’s home on February 24, 1905, aged 68. She married Daniel Sterner on December 21, 1865, and had two daughters Mrs. D. L. King and Mrs. R. B. King. Her husband and eight grandchildren survive, along with a life of Christian devotion and patient suffering. Her family notes she now rests in heavenly harbor with her Savior.

Council Holds Brief Session and Reads Two Ordinances

The council met Monday with the mayor and clerk present and all members in their seats. First readings were given to an ordinance regulating saloons and another regulating pool rooms and bowling alleys. After paying bills they adjourned to meet Thursday evening.
