Hospital Patients Mrs Campbell and Miss Wallace Under Observation

Hospital notes report Mrs W J Campbell and Miss Annabelle Wallace patients at Wadsworth hospital. Miss Wallace, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wallace, is under observation after an appendicitis operation Saturday and is doing nicely. Campbell is under observation.

Applecreek Quartet Wins First at Wayne County Fest

The Applecreek quartet took first place at the Wayne County Fest held at Jackson Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening. Sterling earned second place. judge was Miss Frances P. Chaine of Wooster. The Sterling quartet includes E. O. Hart, D. H. Johnson, Russell Hart, and Roscoe Hartzler. The District Fest will be in two weeks and a county fest at church school is planned for the week of April 23. The chosen piece is Schnecker’s arrangement of Recessional God of Our Fathers. The Ohio Council of Sacred Ane sie is a new movement in the state.

Dr Edwin McKinney Dies After Overwork in Doylestown

State Directors Meet in Columbus Discuss Walton League

Topics included bills in the Ohio Legislature and outlining statewide chapter projects. The meeting, held in Columbus, was presided by State President T D Peffly of Dayton.

Rittman Bank Holds Firm Amid National Stress

The Rittman Savings Bank reports deposits steady with withdrawals in both savings and commercial accounts. Checks on the bank are honored while credit is held from other banks as a protective measure under state emergency banking laws. Bank officials say no alarm, deposits safe, and only a wide withdrawal surge could trigger restrictions. Ohio factories and employers expect payrolls to continue as usual. The run on Ohio reserves began after Michigan moratoriums on February 13, causing shortages affecting Ohio and New York banks.

Rotary H S Squad Dithers Over Educational Athletics

At a Rotary luncheon Coach Boles of Wooster College inspired the Rittman high school basketball squad and Rotary Club with a talk on character building through athletics. He praised Rittman's season, cited Superintendent Garver Principal Haney and Coach Young, and framed competition as cultural development. Yudelivitz arranged the program. Club Features Noted Singer At Fri. Dance

On Friday March 10 the Collegiate Juni. Club will host Johnny Bast, National Atwater Kent Radio Audition winner and noted crooner praised by Rudy Vallee. Wayne County Leads January Industrial Fatalities Count

Wayne County reports 12 work related incidents in January including one fatality and one permanent disability. Most fatalities occurred in mining and leather/wood manufacturing with a lower overall rate than last year. The state safety division notes campaigns by industrial groups and community safety efforts influenced the numbers.

Services Held For Doylestown Man

Dr Stepfield, a longtime Doylestown physician and former Wayne County coroner, died after months of illness. Born in Elmira New York seventy five years ago he practiced medicine in Sie Flats New York before moving to Doylestown fifty years ago. He led local affairs as banker publican committee member and school board president and served in the Masonic lodge. Surviving are a son two daughters a stepdaughter ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons. Funeral service held at Zion Lutheran Church officiated by Rev Myers and Rev Dittmar with burial in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

Rittman Triumphs In Teammates Conty Tournament

Rittman High basketballers claimed a key victory in Wayne County tournament play, slipping past Big Prairie and defending champions Chester as the season’s stretch run unfolded. The semifinal featured a tense duel, with Rittman pulling away late in the third period to secure a 91 18 win. Chester upset by Doylontown earlier, Chester had led early but could not hold off the underdogs as the tourney progressed.

Mother of Five Dies After Influenza Complications

Liza Thompson, 47, a mother of five, died Wednesday night at 8 30 at the home of Burgess Hargess on Sterling Avenue after complications from influenza. Viewing until Friday noon at Ebert Funeral Chapel, funeral services to be held Sunday afternoon in West Virginia. Survived by five children, including Burgess and four daughters living in Orrville, Syracuse, and at home.

Wadsworth Hospital Contract for Indigent Care Adopted

Medina County Commissioners awarded Wadsworth Hospital the contract to care for indigent patients at $5.60 per day covering medical and surgical work and board. Elyria was the lowest bidder last year. The county will arrange transport cages if ambulance charges prove advantageous.
