Local visitors from Mrs Joseph Gaborsky family lauded Rittman for its unusually clean streets and yards during Memorial Day weekend. A reader notes Mrs Charles Ruble’s peas were a fine harvest, and Mrs Guy M Rudy of Dalton praises the town water as soft and pleasing to the taste.
The Press reports the Shook family picked ripe tomatoes from their garden on Wednesday June 23. They note a prior year had earlier tomatoes by ten days and invite details if someone grows the first watermelon.
June and leap year bring many marriages as young couples rush to the altar. The paper notes a steady stream of weddings and plans to feature several stories this week, prioritizing the most readable details.
The two winning high school bowling teams were honored at a Monday banquet sponsored by the city recreation board. Rev W. F. Echols supervised the event held June 14. Each member received a miniature pin and ten pin souvenir. Angels team members: Evelyn VanGilder, Margaret Stefanica, Jean Harvey, Charlotte Ruble, Dorothy Adams. Wolverines: Tom Wicke, Richard Britton, Gerald Howell, Harold Walker, David DeVore. Four girls and six boys teams participated.
Ohio Central Telephone President George B. Quatman outlined plans to expand service in Rittman. The work includes adding equipment, constructing a new North Main Street cable to handle about 400 more telephones and future facilities as growth continues. Local leaders voiced concerns over current service and welcomed steps to improve both local and long distance calls.

Bill Williams entertained his restaurant employees at a weiner roast in the park last Friday evening. Attendees included Mrs Williams, Myrtle Dull, Helen Murray, Wanda Pelfrey, Idabelle Artip, Betty Cox, Bill Bowen, Bill Williams, and his father W. C. Williams.
Charles Rohrer was installed as president of the Rittman Lions club at a Monday evening meeting. Bud Ault of Wooster installed officers and five year attendance pins were awarded to Leonard Over and Boyd Miller. Homer Hoover named Miller chairman of Zone 1. The club will not meet again until July 12.
Relatives gathered Tuesday evening June 15 to surprise Mr and Mrs Kenneth Kurtz at their Norton Center home. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Carl Milford Mr and Mrs Raymond Snyder Mr and Mrs Earl Franks Mr and Mrs B Shook Mrs Maude Cummings Mr and Mrs Elson Mullen of Wooster and Rev and Mrs Harold Snyder of New Castle Pa. Gifts were presented to the honorees.
The Women of the Moose held a special meeting on Wednesday evening June 16 to nominate and elect chaplain Ida Collier. They practiced installation for June 23 with Albert Schaad as installing officer. Hazel Walters will attend the Ohio Conference in Cincinnati this weekend representing the local Moose women.
An editorial urges promoting Rittman as the fastest growing city in Ohio. With growth over 10 percent this year, it calls on businessmen civic groups the Council and Chamber of Commerce to adopt the slogan Rittman the Fastest Growing City in Ohio for ads letterheads and campaigns.
Rittman street commissioner Al Branstetter announced the monthly trash collection for Monday July 5. Residents should place trash in sturdy containers no larger than a bushel, to be hauled away and left on the premises. Containers go in the alley if passable or at the curb by 7 am.
A Local Union of the Ohio Salt Co held a general meeting in the high school auditorium to discuss the terms of a new contract. A second meeting is planned for Friday evening to continue the discussion with the union negotiating committee and company representatives present.
The First Evangelical United Brethren church to host a Sunday service targeted at couples married during Rev W E Price's pastorate. Invitations sent to those couples. topic planned as A successful marriage with wedding music. The first couple married by Price in Rittman were Mr and Mrs William Swartz on December 25, 1941.
Mr and Mrs C E Rhonemus entered the snipe class at the Ohio Inter club Yachting regatta on Chippewa Lake finishing fourth out of 12. Local attendees included Mr and Mrs Ed Newberry, members of the Chippewa club.

Charles Spradlin and Mr and Mrs Robert Schaad attended the midget auto races at Sportsman Park Sunday evening.
Canvassers began door to door visits in Rittman to compile a new city directory planned for August 1948 by the Rittman Publishing Co. The directory will include churches clubs manufacturers and town officials plus a map and history. Residents are urged to aid by providing information.
Grant Shibley joins The Boxboard as safety director after serving as assistant safety director at Goodyear. He has background in safety, fire prevention, industrial hygiene and workers compensation. Formerly a safety health biology instructor in Akron schools, he is Akron University graduate with graduate work in psychology and education. His Bath Ohio home may move nearby when housing is available.
A 45 minute full color film titled God of the Atom will be shown at 7 30 p m Friday June 25 at First Brethren Church 44 South First Street Rev L W Marvin says the Moody Institute of Science produced film uses scientific diagrams and shows Nagasaki and Bikini blasts to illustrate atomic power.
