Wage talks resume at Ohio Boxboard union meeting
Local 150 representatives of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers in Rittman Ohio presented a new wage offer from the company payable June 1 1957. The offer includes a general increase for all hourly employees and a fourth week of vacation for those with 25 years or more of seniority. Union members will vote at two meetings Friday June 21 at Rittman High School.

Area girls save youth from death in rattlesnake bite
Richard Beery a former Rittman resident now in Phoenix was saved from a rattlesnake bite by quick actions of two Marshallville girls Lucille and Lorene Hartzler. The girls aided until Beery reached hospital for treatment.

Seven youths were fined and sentenced to Medina county jail detention wards after trespassing and assault at a private Hill n Dale resort beach in Montville. Paul Ayers 21 and Holly Starcher 18 from Medina were named among the group. two Wadsworth youths and two Rittman girls also faced penalties. Ayers received 5470 in fines and 10 days jail. Starcher 1850. the two girls two days. the Wadsworth pair ten days and 25 fine.

Lions to Build Outdoor Pavilion on Legion Grounds
Rittman Lions announce plans to construct a 20 by 50 foot outdoor pavilion on the American Legion grounds at EF Sunset Drive. Vernon Steiner to build the roof structure at about 750 dollars with completion in a few weeks. The project aims to add utilities for picnics and summer reunions and, with contributions from other groups, create a modern recreation center with horseshoe courts and play facilities for all.

Salt union offered wage hike at Morton Salt Co
Union members at Morton Salt Co were offered wage increases of six to nine cents an hour after meetings with the company on Wednesday. Under the proposed contract women would gain six cents, laborers grade 1 seven cents, grades 2 eight cents, and grades 111 nine cents. More than half of workers would see nine cents, officials said. A two year contract signed last year allows a one year re opening. the current contract expires June 30.

Boy In Unconscious Condition After Road Accident
Six year old Timothy Kollert, son of Mr and Mrs Homer Kollert, remains unconscious at home on Route 94 between Rittman and Wadsworth after a March 30 accident. He had been in Akron’s Children’s Hospital and was returned home on Memorial Day. his mother says his condition has improved but he has never regained consciousness.
