Gun battle ends in jail term for Fred Ruffman Tuesday
Fred Ruffman of Fifth street, longtime supervisor of wells for the Ohio Salt Co., is in Wooster jail serving 30 days after a family dispute and gunfire with police and deputies at his home early Tuesday. In court Tuesday night Mayor M R Ritter ordered Ruffman jailed after a disorderly conduct charge. he also faced assault and battery and pointing firearms at an effigy with a $100 fine and costs. Ruffman surrendered about 3 am Tuesday following his wife’s midnight complaint as deputies closed in with tear gas.

Durell Hubacher of Sterling 57 died Tuesday after an illness of several months. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 pm at First Baptist Church in Sterling with Rev Forrest Lance officiating. Burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Ebert Funeral Home in charge. Survived by husband John and five children. two sons died in World War II. Friends called Wednesday evening at a daughter's home.

Mrs Houglan Hurt In Canada Crash Near Barrie Ontario
Mrs O A Houglan sustained a crushed left knee and a minor right knee cut after a collision near Barrie Ontario while returning from fishing. The car crashed into a tree stump. Ralph Overholt escaped uninjured but the car was wrecked. Mrs Houglan was transported to Wadsworth hospital after treatment in Barrie.
