Rites for Hugo Shapiro Held Saturday
Hugo H B Shapiro longtime chief chemist at Ohio Match Co died last Thursday at his Sharon Center area farm home. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday at Bickster funeral home with Rev A G Lansberry officiating. Burial in Sharon Center cemetery. Born in Riga Latvia, he studied at Dresden and Riga Polytechnic before arriving in 1907. He joined the match company in 1919, later becoming chief chemist and living in Wadsworth before moving two years ago to the farm near Sharon Center. He was a charter member of the American Chemistry Society and member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers the Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industries the Chemical Society of England and the Masonic lodge. He leaves two sons Dr Myron Schaeffer professor of music at the University of Panama and Norbert Schapiro civil engineer at Babcock & Wilcox Barberton.

Mayors Court Session Recovers Fines For Disturbances
Mayors court handled several disorderly conduct and intoxication cases after late hours in the town. Con stable Charles Heffelman arrested Mr and Mrs Ellis Drugan at Mrs Carrie Giletty’s Stering home for disturbing the peace. Mayor John Baldwin fined them $2 each plus costs totaling 11.75 dollars. Howard Stevens and Robert Chislem, minors, were jailed overnight for drinking and singing in Central Park and were released the next morning on good behavior. Additional routine intoxication and disorderly conduct cases were noted.

The War Food Administration announced on June 8 that sweet potatoes and carrots are no longer reserved for war needs as supplies appear sufficient. Dehydrated Irish potatoes beets cabbage onions and rutabagas remain reserved under FDO 3n with processors required to set aside production for military lend lease and civilian needs. Through future production of sweet potatoes and carrots is no longer reserved but stocks on hand as of June 1 must be delivered to the Government or disposed by the Director with unchanged reporting requirements for all seven vegetables.
