W A Stilwill a retired railroad worker living at 38 W Ohio Ave received the 50 year pin from the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. The pin arrived from Cleveland offices after a January service time. He retired from Massillon and has since led local civic duties including chairing the Rittman Civician Commodity Rationing Board and serving in Rotary and Masons.

Howard F Van Noate Doylestown enrolled for the present quarter not in attendance for winter term.
Congressman Wm R Thom announces Marshall C Carlisle Jr of Wooster Ohio as the Sixteenth District cadet for West Point. Carlisle, a Wooster High School standout in speech and athletics, begins as a Miami University freshman.

Al Branstetter will serve as superintendent of Rittman’s sewage disposal plant while keeping foreman duties of the street gang. The appointment was approved on a temporary basis by council at City Hall after accepting Ray mond Raff’s resignation. Residents were warned to mow weeds in vacant lots to prevent seed spread, and the shade tree commission was approved for 50 new trees plus replanting last fall. The street gang will handle plant and street work when in use.

A new civilian defense training course drew 51 men to City Wall on Wednesday night. The session started at 7 30 with opening remarks and 9 30 featured first aid instruction by Dr. E R Alexander of Rittman. The same schedule will repeat next week and continue for 17 weeks.
Rittman Rotary closes a 11 week intra club attendance contest with a picnic in Central Park next Thursday. The losing team led by Dr C C Gregg will treat the winning team led by J H Fisher. Jack Davis of Medina will speak on the Bahama Passages and submarine warfare affecting the war effort.
Jacob Homan long time resident dies at 69 Wednesday morning at his N State Street home. He suffered a sun stroke last week and worked as a millwright at Ohio Boxboard Co. Funeral services Friday at 2 p m at Ebert Funeral Home Milton Presbyterian Church with Rev D B Davidson. Burial in Rittman cemetery. Surviving are four step children Harry Raff Mrs Asa Krabill Raymond Raff and George Raff one sister in Perrysville and his wife died seven years ago.
Rittman Red Cross sewing class reports a new June quota with about 90 yards of twill muslin cut into 19 hospital garments. A strong group of women worked at City Hall last Monday and two more meetings of the women s first aid course are planned.
The First Brethren Church of Rittman hosts a Children’s Day Service on June 14 at 7:30 PM led by Mrs. Atlee Hostetler with 50 to 60 children in the program. Rev. Arthur Carey will provide infant dedication and the event features a tableau with an illuminated cross and a Song of dedication. The program includes sacred concert, Sunday School orchestra, recitations, exercises, Bible drills, flag drills, and a nature’s summer school pageant with named child participants and accompanists.

The program includes processional America the Beautiful flag salute invocation hymns prayers litany baptism of children pupil participation address offering announcements and postlude.
John H Fisher of S Main street resigns after 19 years on the Wayne County Children's Home board. He sought relief with two years left in his term. D W Mishler of Smithville will succeed him, with announcement delayed until a replacement was named.
