George E. Snyder 55 of 2 North Hickin died Thursday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after illness since May 2. Services were Monday at Gillman Funeral Home. He was born in Myersdale, Pa and formerly lived in Akron. He was a 20 year Rittman resident, 35 year truck driver, and Army World War II veteran. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery Akron. Surviving: wife Catherine a daughter Betty Holm of Wadsworth a brother Howard of Akron two sisters Eileen Lind and Eva Stidham both of Akron and three grandchildren. Rev James E. Watt officiated.

Rittman schools overhaul to reshape four buildings
The Rittman school system undertakes a multi building revision after summer break. West Hill North Street and First Street will see major classroom changes and new uses including a testing room and a teachers lounge. The plan consolidates space, centralizes purchasing, and creates two sixth grade team centers to serve about 300 students each.

Firemen Plan Big Parade for Carnival Kickoff
Rittman volunteers announce a parade to start the Fireman’s annual carnival from June 24 to 27. The march begins June 24 at 6 30 p.m. with gathering at 5 45 at West Hill School. R Gault Aurand Dies At 69 In Rittman Ohio
Funeral services were held for R Gault Aurand Sr. 69 of 21 Bellevue who died Tuesday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after three weeks illness. Born in Sycamore Ohio he came to Rittman in 1918 and worked 47 years at Packaging Corporation of America retiring in 1966. He was a United Methodist Church member survived by wife Blanche a son R Gault Jr a daughter Dorothy Adams and six grandchildren. Gillman Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Rev Daniel Remaley officiated burial in Rittman Cemetery.

Excise Tax Receipts Rise By 27 Percent in May
State Treasurer John D. Herbert reported May excise tax receipts totaling 13,167,878.98, up 2,805,210.49 from 1969. Cigarette income rose mainly due to higher taxes, while cigarette sales in Ohio declined 3.9% year to date. Beer and wine taxes increased, penny-per-pack funds fell 70,535.69, and year to date totals show broad gains across cigarette beer wine and malt.

Lee Winchell son of Mr and Mrs Vernon Winchell 12 Brookside was chosen as a 1970 John P Burke Scholarship Award recipient worth 1000.
