Fourteen year old charged in two car thefts in Ritter court

A 14 year old from Rittman faced charges in Mayor M R Ritter's court for two car thefts, admitting theft of Or dale Moser's vehicle and later Dr E R Alexander's car. Bond set at 500 dollars. Other recent cases included Mike Renuk fined 200 dollars for stealing a spotlight and resisting an officer, and driving while intoxicated charges for Lloyd Neuffer with a 100 dollar fine.

Youth program highlighted by World Service Society meeting

The Women's Society of World Service, Evangelical United Brethren church, met June 3 at Mrs. Maude Cummings home with 22 members. Topics included youth fellowship and reports from Red Bird Settlement School, McCurdy School, a Chinese minister in China, and children's work in Sierra Leone. Refreshments followed and the next meeting is July 1 at Mrs. Cora Lee’s home.

World Service Group meets at Gillman home

The Milton Presbyterian church World Service Group met Tuesday evening in the home of Mrs Karl Gillman with 20 members present. Mrs E W Wagner and her group led the program with reports on Chile and South America and the Philippines. Hostess and helpers provided refreshments.

P V Dairy Bowling Team Sets High Score at Congress

The P V Dairy team rolled 2559 the highest team score among three Rittman teams at the congress. Teams included Rittman Moose and Surge Dairy Equipment. High single scores were Raymond Bell 569 McConnell 567 and Bob Schaad 558. Bell and McConnell placed in the money. None of the teams were in the money as 2660 was the dividing mark.

Robert Becerra captured the $100 merchant award while Melvin Troxel Sr. took the $10 prize as Yabroff conducted the event.

Missionary Society Study Program Held At Rittman Branch

The Missionary Society of the Rittman Branch met at Bernetha Beery Themene s home. The program themed Clean Hands and a Pure Heart featured worship led by Mrs. Thelma Bodager devotionals by Silva Frank a word study on Clean and Pure by Martha Gott Doral Roose and poems Is It Enough Morning Prayer. Nora Kohler reviewed Do All to the Glory of God and Bernitha Beery read Morning Prayer. Mrs. Frank reported on Brethren Mission at Lost Creek and Hadix Kentucky after her visit.

Otterbein Bible Class Holds Weiner Roast

The Otterbein Bible class of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church met Tuesday evening at the home of Mr and Mrs Dudley Orr. Mrs Ella Boling received a birthday gift as Ed Jackson led devotionals and Mrs Steiner organized entertainment. A weiner roast was held with hostess Carice Jager assisting. The next meeting will be a picnic at Miss Esther Amstutzs home on July 13.

Junior Missionary Council Meets at Sigler Home

Evelyn Hostler led the Junior Women's Missionary Council of the First Brethren church during a meeting at Mrs James Sigler's home Tuesday evening. June 1 Miss Gladys Hoover led the mission study and Mrs Ida Gish directed the Bible study. Pearl Schaub played an accordion solo for 14 members present. The next meeting will be at Evelyn Hostetler's home Tuesday July 6.

Birthday Club Honors Mrs Sam Welch

The Birthday club met on Wednesday June 2 with Mrs Sam Welch to celebrate her birthday. Dinner followed for 26 guests. The afternoon featured contests and quizzes about noted characters. Mrs Welch received many gifts and cards. The next meeting is August 17 with Mrs Melvin Kennedy in Marchallylle.

Delays in Survey Work Slow Grading of New Willow Brook Area

Unforeseen survey and title problems hold up grading for 70 lot north Willow Brook, delaying groundwork for 35 houses to Christmas. Civil engineers report stakes from previous surveys, Sunset Drive misalignment up to 10 feet, with test borings planned next week and ground moving two weeks after. Akron inventor buys Ten-Ken Rubber Co

Akron inventor Clyde Semler bought Ten-Ken Rubber Products Co from H Q Tenant last Monday. Tenant will run production for the new firm at 71 Salt St, Akron. The plant makes rubber balloons and other dipped rubber goods with no personnel changes planned.

Plan Bowling Banquet for Teenagers Monday

A banquet for the Boys and Girls bowling league will be held at Williams Restaurant next Monday at 8 pm. Rev F Hals announced the event this week. All who continued playing with the league until it ended are invited. The banquet is free and sponsored by the Rittman recreation committee. Trophies will be awarded to top individuals and teams.

Miss Florence West and Wiley Holland were united in marriage at six pm Tuesday June 1. The ceremony was conducted by Reverend A J Wagner at the Methodist parsonage with a few relatives present. The Hollands plan to reside in Rittman.

Elaine Bodager Hosts Sisterhood Meeting

Miss Elaine Bodager entertained the Sisterhood of the Smithville Brethren Church on Tuesday evening June 8. Mrs Vernon Grisso led the gathering and plans were discussed to attend summer camp at Shipshewana and sending a representative to the Canton Brethren church conference. Refreshments were served to the five members present.

Coon Dog Field Trial Set For Sunday Afternoon

Rittman's fifth annual coon dog field trial is Sunday June 13 at the Mike Firis farm two miles east of Rittman starting at noon. The Farmers Sportsman Association sponsors the event with 300 dollars to be paid to top dogs. Proceeds support wildlife and soil and tree conservation. Local merchants donate prizes and gate awards.

Missionary Group Quilts During All Day Meeting

The Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Group met Thursday June 3 for an all day quilting session led by Mrs Clyde Burkhardt. Eight members answered roll call and a scripture reading and prayer opened the gathering. A covered dish luncheon followed at noon. The next meeting is Thursday June 17 with Mrs Ada Kauffman in Easton and officers will be elected.
