Miss McWethy 52 Public Health Nurse Dies at Wooster

Margaret McWethy 52 longtime Wayne County Health Department nurse died after a Saturday stroke in Wooster hospital following a health conference. She is survived by her father S Smith McWethy sister Susan Morgan and brothers Roland and others. Funeral services held at McIntire Funeral Home proceeded to Lawrenceburg Ind for burial.

Taxes May Be Paid In August

County Treasur­er Ben McIlvaine notes August remains the window to pay the second half of real estate taxes. Delinquents face a 10 percent penalty for late payments after those books close. If unpaid over a year, an eight percent interest charge applies, and delinquents beyond three years are certified to the prosecuting attorney for foreclosure. The prosecutor’s office is handling several tax sale properties.

Seville Couples Celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversaries

Two Seville couples marked 50 years of marriage last week. Mr and Mrs RD Long wed July 25 1891 in Grice M E Church Akron and have a daughter Mrs Charles Bart of Medina. Mr and Mrs Noah Love married July 23 1891 in Washington Indiana with two children J H of Denver and Mrs WL Bailey. Both couples reside in Seville. Love couple members are 76, Long couple 72 and 74 respectively.

Beachy Public Sale Sets Attendance Record Here

The largest single farm sale in memory was held at the M. R. Beachy farm northwest of Rittman last Saturday afternoon. Everything sold including a herd of Holsteins. The buyers filled the crowd as 1500 ice cream packs were sold by Farmers Dairy Products Co. The new tenant moved in and the Beachys relocated to 41 S State St. The crowd expected a figure larger than Eidron sales.

Creston Ditch Hearing Faces Assessment Objections

Creston Ditch hearing held Wednesday by county commissioners drew about 15 residents from Creston and nearby areas. Objections were raised to proposed assessment amounts for cleaning the Creston Ditch, an 1920 established project. discussions reflected numerous land ownership changes since then.

Draft Board Gets Call for Three Men on August 12

Orrville draft board in eastern Wayne County received an unofficial call for three white men on August 12. The next group to depart will be August 14 with 14 men deemed safe. John Gonter of Dalton was deferred allowing entry into another service branch, and Robert R. Anderson of Rittman will take his place.

Police News Behind Route 9 Saturday Crashes

On Saturday around 1 p m Charles Pitz of Barberton was southbound on Route 9 and tried to turn left onto Getting’s Lane. Willard Gasser and Fred Winkler, both of Rittman, traveling in the same direction, collided with Pitz, causing damage to three cars. Marshal Charles Heffelman investigated. Kenneth Russell of Canton was arrested Saturday afternoon for reckless driving at Route 94 and 5 south of Rittman, fined 10 dollars plus costs after a trial before Justice Joseph Sherrick. Irvin Hurt of Rittman was arrested Tuesday night for having a minor operate a motor vehicle without a permit. he was fined 10 dollars plus costs.

Mayor thanks aluminum collectors and givers

Mayor John Baldwin publicly thanked two Boy Scout troops for collecting aluminum gifts from Rittman households for the national defense program. The Wayne county drive collected about two tons, with county trustees and village mayors organizing township drives and supplying trucks to haul to the welfare storehouse near the county jail.

Rotary To Golf and Dine With Wadsworth Club

Rittman Rotary Club will join the Wadsworth club for a Brookside Country Club outing next Wednesday afternoon and evening.
