Car Slips at T Intersection Causes Ditch Collision
Agnes Marie Wein, riding north on County Road 44, slid through a stop sign at a T intersection with County Road 27 on July 20 and struck the north ditch. The car had minor damage to the left front fender with no property damage. A gravel patch on County Road 44 and hidden tires may have prevented stopping. Mayor Ashton Hall addressed a small audience of Rittman citizens before adjournment as council discussed water supply and attendance.

Morton Salt Open House Draws 2 900 Visitors
Rittman residents and visitors toured the Morton Salt plant during a six hour open house. More than 2,500 people explored sections from the boiler room to the print shop, learning about salt production and modern plant changes. Locals Peter Long and Bill Beichler recalled past methods and noted forklift and conveyor upgrades during the tour.

Chippewa watershed project advances in four parts
Part 1 wraps up in August under Chippewa Watershed Conservation Association secretary Lew Burnett. The plan runs four stages: Part 1 from Tuscarawas River to Rittman, Part 2 from Rittman to Seville, Part 3 from Seville to Chippewa Lake, and Part 4 toward River Styx. Final inspection for Part 1 set for August. An outside architectural survey of the River Styx will guide future design and dam work at sites 8C and 8D with completion expected this year and December respectively.

Summer program starts July 28 at 6 00 pm and runs Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at the High School through football two a day practices. Open to middle and high school boys. Key events include helmet fittings on August 2 and speed agility and strength tests on August 2 and 4.

Items Taken From Homes And Road Crash Report
A series of thefts are reported July 19 to July 23 including a back door pried open, a CB radio stolen from a garage vehicle, and inside the home items such as three rings one set of earrings and a ladies wrist watch. Lawn ornaments were also taken from a Brookside Street residence. A parking lot incident July 18 involves Samuel Clyde Trent whose car was hit in the right rear corner by an unknown vehicle. On July 17 Dan R. Saurer and Jeffrey A. Snowden were involved in a crash on DeCoursey Road after Saurer attempted to pass and Snowden cut in causing Saurer to strike Snowden. Snowden and his bike were knocked onto the road.

Rittman Welcome Wagon Club backs Safety Town for preschoolers entering kindergarten. Sessions run July 26-30 and August 2-6 from 8:30 to 11 at North Street School with chairpersons Donna Jackson and Patti Genovese. Children explore traffic, playground and home safety via a simulated village, with songs, art, and visits from local safety professionals. T shirts cost 3.50 and are sold by chairs or during sessions.
