Local readers report ongoing bird nest obser vations as wrens persist in using an old house. Friends and relatives visit each other in Michigan Ohio and Argentina exchange travel updates. Several residents recover from surgery and welcome newborns while others relocate jobs and homes.
A Sunday dawn joy ride ended in death for Edward Musser 21 of 153 N Seneca Street and Linda Fraser 27 of Seville with Diane Haas 23 and Alan Killough 20 injured. Speeding vehicle left the road struck a boulder and flipped at Goat Hill. Haas listed fair at Akron General Hospital Killough in serious condition at Barberton Citizens Hospital. Fraser body to Summit County Morgue pending arrangements. Musser and Fraser are mourned as services are arranged by Gillman Funeral Home Rittman and family from West Virginia expected for Fraser.
Postmaster H. W. Mougey says Saturday post office windows will be closed all day starting July 27. Box lobby will stay open for lock box renters. mail processing continues. City and rural deliveries persist. Saturday box deposits will align with Sunday pickup. Plans to end Saturday city residential delivery by Sept. 1 were requested from postmasters. Edward F. Musser 21 died at Barberton hospital from a Medina County crash. He had lived in Marshallville and worked for Packing Corporation of America. He served in the U S Army 1963-66. Survived by father Evan Musser and Virginia, five step brothers, two sisters, and other relatives. Burial at Hoover Memorial Cemetery. arrangements by Gillman Funeral Home.
Councilman Jay Griffith revealed Packaging Corporation of America asked realtors to locate homes for as many as 80 families to staff Southern Ohio mines. PCA aims for rentals at 75 to 100 dollars monthly, preferring available units and avoiding housing subsidies or trailer parks.
Services were held Saturday for Mrs. Bessie Elizabeth Oxenrider 61 of Creston who died July 17 at Orrville Osteopathic Hospital. The Rev Dean Kindy officiated. She is survived by her husband Dwight a son three daughters a sister and a brother. Burial was in Seville Mound Hill Cemetery.
A Rittman public hearing showed strong support for extending State Highway 57 south of Rittman to the Route 5 intersection. Officials and business leaders urged future links, safety provisions, and an eventual two to four lane upgrade while Timmer outlined limited access design and open traffic planned for 1971.
Jim Deubel resigned this week as a police patrolman to purchase the Rittman Taxi Company, signaling a career change from law enforcement to local transportation business ownership.
Services held in Doylestown for Carl Nuss 66 who died at Barberton Citizens Hospital after a three month illness. Born in Akron he lived in Doylestown since 1929 and formerly worked as a photo finisher. Survived by wife Estella son Raymond and three sisters.
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 94 and associates of Wayne County met to discuss a new building site to cover two or three acres. Public relations chair Jimmie George announced the plan with spokesmen Dr. Virgil Rose and Dr. A Eschenaur. A retail location is sought and several hundred dollars in contributions were made at the meeting.
City Council approves a 1969 budget of 489725 with tax rate cuts and reduced expenses. The panel also strengthens the dilapidated building ordinance and trailer parking controls while rejecting a proposal to allow non residents to tap city water. City Manager Gosney notes main revenues from real estate and income taxes. A specific directive orders notices to owners of dilapidated properties to repair or demolish.
Twelve U S Marines at Hai Winh outpost in South Vietnam adopt Rittman Ohio. Mayor vows honorary citizenship and council plans to ship cookies. Sgt Ron Norwood writes the adoption letter citing local supporters and the Rittman Press as inspiration.
