RENO HARDGROVE recalls a promise from friends to repay him with a fish for the use of his boat. Last summer the plan failed as the fish did not bite, but last week the same friend returned with two bine specimens of the finney tribe as a small token of luck.

Seek Wheat Donations for Overseas Relief

Rev. D. B. Davidson and G. H. Clippinger attended a meeting of county representatives of the Christian Rural Overseas Program in Wooster. The drive seeks wheat and cash contributions for overseas relief. Farmers may donate wheat for the Ohio food train at Hershey and Rohrer through August 15, with tax deduction. Virgil Ullman was a patient at Wadsworth hospital last week.

Packing Co Installs New Sausage Kitchen

A modern sausage kitchen was put into operation at the Rittman Packing Co last week. It is the largest and most modern in the area and occupies a 30 by 60 foot room. The plant produces sausage wieners meat loaves and bologna with an automatic wiener link machine and other equipment. When running at full capacity six to eight more workers will be hired and plans for a 20 by 30 foot room for a smokehouse and lard rendering room are underway. Weekly capacity now includes 100 beef 125 calves 50 lambs and 50 hogs.

Rittman Junior Legion Wins Three Of Four Games

The Rittman junior league baseball team won three of four games over two weeks. They crushed Apple Creek 17-1 on July 9 with Stromach pitching and two homers. Hoskinson and Hardgrove held Marshallville to one run in a 5-1 win on July 12. They lost 3-2 in 11 innings at Wadsworth last Friday and beat Wooster 10-7 at home.

Tots Enter Cute Children Contest at City Hall

More than 100 tots from Rittman and nearby areas were photographed Saturday at city hall for the Cute Children Contest. Photographer Ben Howard helped calm children as they posed, with proofs to be mailed to parents in about three weeks for selection. Tentative photo dates are August 7 or 9 at the City Hall.

Local Bonus Night Prize Winners Named

The Bonus Night award last Saturday Night carried a $100 prize won by George Fritz of 79 West Hill Ave. He is 78 years old and pleased with the win. Other awards went to Mrs. Lloyd Gasser, R. D. Steyling for $15 second prize, and Miss Roberta Adams of 53 Bellvue Ave for $10.

New Book Projector Arrives at Rittman Public Library

A ceiling projector bought with popular subscription funds has arrived at the Rittman Public Library and is ready for use. About a dozen microfilm titles have been ordered and will belong to the library, with more loans from the State Library as needed.

Scout Organization Plans to Raise Funds for Lodge

The Rittman Scout Organization finance committee met at City Hall to outline fundraising for a community scout lodge. Estimated cost is $6,000 with $2,000 already in the building fund. Plans include block shaped gift boxes for public contributions and underwritten lodge sections by town organizations.

Lions club members shared fishing trip stories at Monday’s Legion home meeting. Verne Gephart introduced speakers including Boyd Miller O A Houglan Herald Miller and Harry Griner. Charles Rohrer announced 20 committee chair appointments for the coming year including Wenger Rolph Hile Norton Griner and Hauenstein.

Open House at Boys' Village Sunday in Wayne County

The annual open house for Sunday Schools of Wayne County will be held at Boys' Village Sunday July 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. Last year 48 Sunday Schools were represented. An Akron Area Boy Scout band will give an afternoon concert and village inspections will be offered including a nearly completed new dormitory building.

Scout Lodge fundraiser and building plans outlined

Girl Scouts run a Saturday concession to raise funds with ice cream cake pies popcorn drinks and balloons. Delores Wright chairs the project while Boy Scouts plan a paper drive to boost the lodge building fund. Planning shows a 25 by 45 foot two story building with basement and assembly room on land bought last year south of W Ohio Ave. Finance committee includes Homer Moore chair Ralph Gwaltney Chas Wald and Pete Lalich. Kanehi acted as chair in Moore’s absence during the meeting.

Two Cars Damaged In Tuesday Collision

At 11 p.m. Tuesday two cars collided at the intersection of Ohio avenue and Senecast. A 1937 Chevrolet driven by Mrs Thede Brislin of West Hazelton Pa. had the right side smashed after pulling out onto Ohio avenue in front of Walter Fahley's Frazier Manhattan from Cleveland. Mrs Ednah Fahley was treated for an injured knee and bruised face. Mrs Brislin was fined ten dollars and costs in Mayor Ritter's court for failure to yield the right of way.

Booster Auction Set For Saturday

The Booster club hosts a community auction at the primary school grounds on N Main St Saturday July 24 at 1 pm Myron Steiner is auctioneer Donations from households and merchants include gas ranges beds radios clothing and more Proceeds go to Booster club for athletic projects The Girl Scouts serve refreshments and accept last minute donations via Lawrence Wilmont president of the club.
