United Telephone Co details wage offer and benefits
United Telephone Company of Ohio today disclosed details of a July 7 contract offer to the Communications Workers of America negotiating committee. The package features wage boosts of 44 percent for top Plant craft wages and 40 percent for top Traffic operator wages over three years, with immediate increases upon acceptance. Craft top rate would rise to 4.51 per hour and reach 5.31 by year three, while Traffic operators move to 2.90 per hour, then 3.50 by year three, with current top rates at 3.95 and 2.50 respectively. The plan includes holidays, five weeks vacation after 30 years, four weeks after 19 years, uniforms, wet weather gear, enhanced maternity benefits, full premium payments on group health and surgical insurance, vested pension rights, and sick pay improvements. Company officials said they are ready to meet with union negotiators for an early agreement.
