Marshal George Morgan reported a successful search of the Hoosier place at Burbank after a tip from a railroad worker yielded no trace of Hoot Wellman who escaped en route to Wayne County Jail. Wellman, 27, fled across a creek into the woods west of Jackson during transfer procedures. He had been jailed for intoxication and disorderly conduct and sentenced to a county jail term after a prior arrest, while his family remains in the county.
James Scott, 96 South 2nd, riding in a crane owned by Ohio Boxboard Co, narrowly avoided injury when a westbound B and O passenger train collided with the crane on a siding between the B tracks and Boxboard plant. The crash caused about 10000 dollars in damage to the train and crane, tore the crane cab, damaged three cars, and halted service until a freight engine replaced the locomotive. Scott escaped with bruises and shock. the crane will be out of service for days as repairs are made.
Mr and Mrs Trendvale announce a daughter. Former residents Mr and Mrs Willard Long have a nine daughter birth. Mr and Mrs Earl Dillon near Rittman report a baby born July 10.
Weidner, visiting his father C L Weidner near Knoxville Tennessee, narrowly avoided a serious crash when a speeding truck on the wrong side of the road side swiped his car. The impact damaged the fenders and side, with damage under $100, partly insured.
