The Akron Boscon Journal argues in a Sunday editorial that prices rise as wages and costs climb and controls end. The piece urges keeping calm, urging readers to pressure Congress only if truly hurt, amid a test of managed versus free economy.
Rittman Veterans baseball team won 4 of 6 contests from June 30 to July 14 in Ada Ohio area tourney play. Tom Craig pitched the Defiance game, Kenny Haldiman and John Steiner worked distance against McGuffey, Turner held Lorain, Barcy Steiner delivered the bases loaded hit, and the Vets defeated Barberton in the nightcap. Next match vs Massillon New Threads at 3 p m.
The Gillman estate in Milton Township is valued at 7078.86 with 4000 in real estate. Executrix Clara Ellen Gillman filed the inventory and appraisement with appraisers R V Fredrick W W Bodager and R J Krabill. James Albert Bruny's estate is appraised at 12869.32. Clarence E Bruny filed the inventory and appraisement in probate court with appraisers W W Sepa R J Krabill and R G V Fredrick.
The Farmers-Sportsmen associations released 72 pheasants within two miles of town on July 4 to restock local game birds. County Game Warden A. J. Bible and his assistant released birds as Chester Winkler and Larry Stoolmiller helped send birds to new habitats near Ritman. Ralph Overholt photographed the event.
Four Akron area clubs held a regular meeting during a visit to Boycout Camp Manatee near Peninsula on Tuesday evening. The event featured dinner and entertainment by about 200 boys in residence. Rittman Rotary reported the highest attendance among Akron Hudson and Ravenna groups.
A series of birth notices from local families includes a son born to Edgar and ____ Wilson near Rittman on June 29, a daughter to Lester and ____ Ault in Marshallville on July 3 at Wadsworth Hospital, several births at Wadsworth Hospital including Charles Gordon, Rodney Lowell Riggs weighing 8 lbs 4 oz, and a daughter to Richard Miller of Rittman R. D. These items list parents, dates in late June to early July, and hospital locations.
Sylvan Wiles, former junior high teacher, was appointed Rittman high school principal starting fall term by the board of education on Supt elect Hauenstein’s recommendation. Salary set at 2700.
The water board has gotten two calls this month asking the superintendent to stop adding so much soft water. A resident with plenty of soap complains of difficulty washing it off with the gentler supply. The author returns from a four day break and empathizes with Dagwood’s wish for a soft job.

The council tabled the Landis property condemnation ordinance for recreation use awaiting a preferred site between W Ohia Ave and North St owned by Ben Bauman. They did not take the third reading vote as scheduled. A northern sewer survey proposal for 1947 was submitted by E D Barstow of Akron with a 20 year planning outlook and a potential share of survey costs. Approximately 30 500 was approved for the coming fiscal period, excluding anticipated heavy expenditures. The council urged railroad repairs on S Main St and warned Erie Railroad about the Sterling Ave crossing. Hydrants on N State St E Chip Ave and Grandview Blvd were moved and corrected. Street coating for East and West Sunset drives was inadequately applied and a recoat is promised. A sewer service request on Fredrick St east from N Senecast was referred to Ivan King. Two men are being sought for maintenance work as projects lag due to manpower. Voltage complaints to the power company and a possible rebate were discussed. The Rittman Savings Bank was named depository for two years. Metropolitan Housing Authority planning was noted to support veterans housing.
