Miss Mildred Volek daughter of Mr and Mrs John Volek Salt Street and Pete Solonika formerly of New Castle Pa now of Akron were united in marriage Saturday June 1 at 10 00 am in St Ann s church Rev John T Farrell read high mass The church featured palms and gladioli A Teresa Zvada sang Ave Maria and On This Day Oh Beautiful Mother with Mrs Wade Rohrer at the piano The maid of honor Miss Heeinka New Castle Pa and bridesmaids wore matching aqua and yellow dresses The bride wore white satin and net with a circular veil and carried a satin covered prayer book After the ceremony the party went to Akron for a wedding breakfast The couple reside at 305 West Center Akron.

Ruth Steele Weds Harvey Bechtel In Church Ceremony

Ruth Steele daughter of Ira and Mrs Steele and Marion L Bechtel of Williamsport Pa wed at United Brethren Church in a June 30 ceremony. Rev W E Price officiated before two seven branched menorah palms and roses. The couple will reside with the bride's parents after a reception for about 100 guests.

Nylon Drawings Net Lions $290

The local Lions club netted about 290 from ticket sales for nylon drawings of 36 pairs and a radio last Saturday. Expenses were about 100, leaving 290 to be deposited in the club recreation fund. James Hile led sales with 45. other high sellers included Elmer Day Albert Jones H L Davidson and Walter Keating. The radio winner was Walter Keating.

Pat Tighe Injured in Akron Route 224 Crash

Pat Tighe of Fairview avenue Wadsworth husband of Louise Poe of South State Street lies in Peoples Hospital Akron with severe head injuries after a crash involving his car and a truck on Route 224 at Acme Hill. He was driving from Ohio Injector Co to a cottage at Chippewa Lake when ejected and concussed. he showed some rationality Tuesday morning after initial treatment.

American Legion softball team wins its first two starts 10-9 over Wadsworth and 8-7 over Doylestown with late inning rallies. Key homers by Rosenberg West Ramsier Keating and Hobell propel the team from Rittman, with a July 4 game against New London and upcoming fixtures against Cuyahoga Falls Moose and Wooster Legion.

Frye Furniture Opens for Business Saturday

J W Frye & Co. opens its new Main Street building for business Saturday June 29 offering a display of stock while a formal August opening is planned. The 45 by 90 foot main floor is ready for viewing with finish work and landscaping ongoing and L W Albright of Akron has become a partner. Parking is ample in front off the highway.

Recreation Under School Direction In New City Planning

Planning groups including the city council and school board agreed to pause a centralized recreation program until the district advances its building plan. They approved condemning a 7 acre parcel on N Main St for possible future use and discussed an indoor pool and potential recreation center sites. The education board postponed its meeting to July 8 to pursue architect input from the Kent building survey.

Grellas Sell Rittman Dept Store to Wholesale Executives

Mr and Mrs Felix Grella sold the Rittman Department Store on the Square to Clyde W Ambrose of Chippewa Lake and Homer D Moore of Wadsworth both long time salesmen for Root McBride Co of Cleveland with 42 years in dry goods and ready to wear. The store reopened Tuesday under new management after inventory and will keep a full dry goods and mens and womens wear line. Moore served as radar man aboard the Independence during the war. The new owners plan to move families soon and Grellas will return to Cleveland.
