Rittman council votes no to raising gas rates to 34 cents. Five members oppose. Callahan absent. Saloon Raider Gordon Netted In Rittman Speakeasy Bust

Sheriff Miller and deputy Arthur Marka raided Gordon alias Scotty the Mush in Rittman on June 28 at about ten o'clock. Gordon pleaded guilty July 2 to keeping an illicit liquor place and was fined 100 with costs. if unpaid, he faces the workhouse. The raid seized three beers and several whiskey bottles. one man escaped through a shack window. Gordon had operated openly near the B and O tracks for months, with a local woman named by sources as involvement.

Death of John Callahan at Anderson Indiana

John Callahan aged about 76, Civil War veteran, died after his son Quy Callahan traveled to Anderson Indiana. The death occurred Sunday after the father fell ill following a visit from Rising Sun. Funeral held the following Wednesday. Widow two daughters and three sons, plus four sisters mourn him. Daughter Josephine Callahan employed at Ohio Billboard Co. offices was also called to Anderson.

Rittman Defeats Barberton in Baseball Doubleheader

Francis Dennis A Hero Remembered For War Sacrifice

Pipe incident at Boxboard factory injures two workers

James Murray and coworker Metz were hurt Priday while moving a heavy pipe at the Boxboard factory. Murray injured three fingers of his right hand and will be idle three or five weeks while Metz sprained a ankle. The pipe, weighing several hundred pounds, slipped and fell, causing both men to be caught and injured as they tried to prevent the accident.
