Navy Seaman Helps Guam After Typhoon Pamela Relief

Navy Airman Apprentice Timothy A. Brubaker of Rittman Ohio served aboard USS Tripoli in Guam relief operations after Typhoon Pamela. He and 9,500 personnel aided debris clearance and power restoration as 1,650 residents remained homeless and damages neared hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Tripoli operates out of San Diego. Brubaker, a 1974 Rittman High School graduate, joined the Navy in June 1974.

Death of Rittman Parade Queen’s Grandson Shocks Town

Five year old Kurt R. Woyat died Monday at Akron Children’s Hospital from injuries after being struck by a car driven by 17 year old Mary Ann Dalbey on West Ohio Avenue in Rittman. Surviving are his parents, brother, grandparents, and great grandmother. Services set for July 7 at Gillman Funeral Home. Rittman High freshmen cheerleaders plan a July 10 pop bottle drive door to door to raise funds.

Rittman Plans Bicentennial Senior Citizen Day Events

Senior Citizen Day for northeast Ohio counties set for September 4 includes crafts sales with items under 5 dollars, a talent show 10 am to 2 pm, two awards for outstanding senior and community service, and an art auction for painters age 60 plus. Wayne County may enter one painting. ten total paintings judged locally for auction at the fair. Contact John Bone for details or nominations.

Boosters To Meet For Pee Wee Football Sign Ups

The Pee Wee Boosters will meet at the Middle School gym at 7 30 p.m. Tuesday July 13 to finalize sign ups for this year’s Pee Wee football. Parents must accompany each child and head coaches will attend at 6 p.m. Papers for physicals will be distributed.

New Rotary Officers Installed In Rittman Area News

A sequence of local incidents is reported from late June to early July including a dog bite in Wadsworth Rittman Hospital treatment and owner warned to tie the dog. Car wires torn on Sterling Ave and a battery theft on West Sunset. Damaged car door on South Main and a vehicle theft at Industrial St ball park. Two car crashes involve Wanda L Cain Linda K Owsley Concetta Tompkins Peter Maine and Grace Bauder with minor damages described. Continuous minor traffic incidents noted in Rittman area.

Rittman Bicentennial Parade Kicks Off With Pageant and Festivities

Friday's parade featured George and Martha Washington figures, floats from Morton Salt and United Steel Workers, pioneer wagons, a stage coach, and the Rittman High School band. The event ended at Liberty Street with a Bar B Q by the Rotary Club, a water barrel fight sponsored by the fire department, and a 600-person Bicentennial Pageant with a 76 member choir and orchestra. Mayor Ashton Hall awarded Lindsey Williams the key to the city for his Bicentennial service. A fireworks finale followed. Planned events include a Bicentennial Dance by the American Legion, bells tolling with Philadelphia's Liberty Bell, and various community meetings through July 13.
