Wayne County Vocational School Plan Gains District Support

Eight districts including Northwestern and Triway join Chippewa Rittman Dalton North Central Green and Southeast to back a Wayne County vocational school. Plans call for a $1 million facility with shops in auto mechanics cosmetology electronics machine shop and more. Enrollment targets 1500 students in grades 10 to 12 and cost estimates include a $590000 bond and about $1.60 yearly per home on a 22 year plan.

Damage suit filed over 1958 Sterling collision

A damage suit for 50 500 was filed against the Baltimore & Ohio and Erie Lackawanna railroads in federal court at Pittsburgh. Mrs Ora Williams of Newcastle Pa widow of a B&O fireman George S Williams alleges negligence caused the Sterling crash of January 11. The suit charges violations of the Safety Appliance Act and Boiler Inspection Act. Two children Debra 11 and Melvin 15 survive.

Strickland’s Lot Chosen For Rittman Homecoming Festivities

Location for this year’s homecoming is Strickland’s lot rear of Strickland’s Garage East Ohio Avenue with prizes each night, a parade and crowning of a Homecoming Queen. July 28 to 31 features shows concessions rides and a car show by The Rebels and a grand finale by the Burbank Hillbillies. Tickets available from Rittman Volunteer Fire Department with Larry Casserman in charge.

Grass Fires Spread Near Rittman During Holiday Weekend

Rittman Volunteer Fire Department battled two grass fires over the long weekend. The first fire occurred Sunday around 3 am south of Rittman on Route 94 A, likely started by a cigarette tossed from a car. The second fire was reported Monday near Grandview and Sterling Avenue in the woods at noon.

Mary Hartman Beery 69 Seville resident dies

Mrs Mary Hartman Beery of Seville Rd died after a long illness at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. She lived 49 years in Seville and 39 years as a member of Wadsworth First Mennonite Church. Survived by husband Homer three sons Leonard Elton and Keith ten grandchildren one great granddaughter three sisters and three brothers. Death Marked by Tragic Collision on Bloody 94

Judith Ann Sears former Rittman City Clerk dies at 23 in a one car crash on Bloody 94 near Seville. In the crash two passengers, Paul Robinson 23 and Lowell D McComas 25 were injured with McComas severely maimed. Sears funeral set for Thursday at Gillman Funeral Home. A separate fatal injury occurs to James Manwell 14 on Route 94 near Red Bird Food Mart.

Park Equipment and Archery Classes at Central Park

Central Park Pavillion opens 1 to 5 pm Monday through Friday starting the week of July 5 under Linda Parmar. Equipment such as volleyball badminton basketball horseshoes checkers and tennis gear may be signed out at the pool. Archery lessons run weekly with Wes Peterman Monday nights and Mr and Mrs Harry Johnson Tuesday nights at 7. Under the Yum Yum Tree will be this week’s Central Park movie.

Need For Blood Supply Increases In Summer

Blood donations rise in summer as travel and vacations reduce donors. Bloodmobile visits July 19 seek to recruit more donors, including those previously deferred for allergy or non hepatitis jaunice, for fractionation use. The Wayne County Bookmobile will stop in Sterling on Thursday from 6 30 to 8 30 p m and in Burbank the same day from 4 to 5 30 p m Local residents may use the service at these times and locations.

Wadsworth Rittman Hospital Bond Proposed for Ballot

The Wadsworth Rittman Area Hospital Association expects a recommendation on a $950000 construction bond for the November ballot. The 2100000 project will add 100 beds and uses a 40 acre site west of Wadsworth. Funding includes district taxes, Hill Burton grant, and private donations with a highway link planned next year.

Miller Family Burned in Sundance Trailer Explosion

John Miller, his daughter Jan and mother Mrs Herald Miller were injured when a lantern exploded in their Sundance trailer tent. John and Jan were treated for facial and limb burns at Crook County Memorial Hospital. Mrs Miller also burned. The family, traveling from Yellowstone to Louisville, left belongings destroyed.

Selected To Sing With Youth Choir

Two seniors from the senior class were chosen to sing with the Ohio Youth Choir for 1965 66. Larry Craig and Becke Pyle will perform at the Ohio State Fair in late August and in other appearances during the year under director Mrs Carolyn Warren. Marsha Barrett and Elzie Neff sang with the group last year with Marsha set to accompany a European tour this month. Choirs are selected from the senior class for a one year term and tour Europe roughly every three years.

Cub Pack Outing at Canal Fulton Park

Two Cub Scout fathers led 21 Cub Scouts to Clay Park in Canal Fulton for a season ending outing. Dave Hill and James Smith with Mrs Mary Pelfrey accompanied the group in Davis' motor home. A picnic lunch and swimming capped the day.

Services Thursday for Mrs Catherine L Rowe

Mrs Catherine L Rowe 63 died Monday after noon at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. She was born October 8 1901 in Rockwood Tennessee and lived in Logan West Virginia before moving to Rittman twelve years ago. Survived by four sons Edward Robert Herbert Rowe and Joseph of Cleveland a brother Fred C Lickey twenty grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Friends may call at Gillman Funeral Home Wednesday. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

Busy Schedule Delays Ashbrook’s Rittman Visit

Congressman John Ashbrook will not appear in Rittman on Thursday July 8 due to House of Representatives duties in Washington. The president of the Rittman Republican Women's Organization, Mrs Lindsey Williams, said an August appearance date may be arranged.

A Republican caucus will be held at the Rittman Library meeting room at 8 p m Tuesday July 13 to select and endorse candidates. Paul Baker, committeeman, says discussions will cover council school board mayor and township trustees.

Norman Jensen Named Father Of Year In B and Wilcox publication

Norman H. Jensen aged 79 of N Third St is among 16 individuals honored as Father of the Year in the June issue of The Generator employee publication of The Babcock & Wilcox Company. A native of New York, he joined B&W in 1941 and served in the armed forces before returning to work in 1945. He now supervises production in the boiler division's sales promotion and training section and holds a New York University certificate from 1955. He is married to Ruth Morath of Brooklyn.
