The Chippewa Watershed Conservation Association met on June 28 to revive a area wide watershed plan. members seek extra funds amid delays by the Muskingum Conservancy District and the State Department of Natural Resources. Burnett estimates about 45 000 of 63 000 required may be raised, with notes totaling about 60 000 plus interest due by year end.
No new talks scheduled between Local 1280 United Mine Workers District 50 and Morton International. Plant manager Reid Lesser said the company offer remains on the table after union members narrowly rejected it. the strike began at 12:01 Friday night and chorus of union and Morton officials attended prior mediation attempts.
Gerald A. Steele 53 of Creston died Tuesday morning at his home. Born July 21, 1912 near Creston he lived as a farmer. Survived by Ira Steele brother and sisters Donna Barkman Dalton Elgie Bistor Antwerp Bernice Dunn Wooster. Services Thursday at 2 p.m. Gillman Funeral Home. Rev F D Donaldson officiating. Elementary Principal Thomas Spear completed a three week workshop at Akron University including a five day trip to New York City. The program covered economic education with visits to the New York Stock Exchange Federal Reserve Bank Wall Street and the United Nations.
A new drive in branch stands at the north end of Rittman opposite the shopping center with a grand opening set for July 9 and regular hours beginning July 11. The modern building uses Feathtrack stone and features drive up and walk up teller windows with bullet resistive glass. All main office services are available at the branch except loans and safe deposit box services.
Dom Cala bria was charged with defacing and destroying a street sign after last week’s incident on Sterling Avenue. The case was filed in Wooster Municipal Court at the direction of City Manager Will Laughlin, with a July 15 hearing set and a plan to restore the sign to its original location pending council guidance.
Roger L Ramsier of Rittman Michigan is healing in Vietnam after being wounded by shrapnel while aiding a buddy. He earned the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge while serving with Company A 1 327 Infantry 101st Airborne. He thanks supporters through his parents Mr and Mrs Donald Ramsier.
Rittman board of education meets to inspect four school buildings and grounds as it weighs whether to place a bond issue on November ballots. Deadline to file is August 12. Officials discuss repairs at First Street and North Street schools, high school renovations, and furniture needs, with public meetings set for governance and finance.
Harold A. Davis of 427 West Sunset was elected vice president at a Columbus meeting of the Ohio Osteopathic Hospital Association. He also served as program chairman for the event where several speakers were presented to the group.
Mr and Mrs Robert Hanze and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Oreena were honored at a farewell hosted by Pastor and Mrs F D Donald son. Pastors from Miltch United Presbyterian Church First Brethren Church and First Baptist attended. The Hanzes and Orcenas will leave Rittman this month to serve other churches. Orcena is pastor at Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Kindergarten classes this fall at West Hill School will be held in the combined lunchroom gym auditorium and music room. Added rooms are needed for sixth graders so current kindergarten facilities will be shifted and rescheduled to accommodate all day classes. Superintendent W H Haustenstein advised board members during the tour of facilities Tuesday.
The Rittman board of education will gather Wednesday July 13 at 7 pm in the home economics room of Rittman High School. Mrs Charles Harrington has returned home from Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a weeklong stay.
