Full Slate Of Activities For August Fun Festival
Rittman Recreation Department prepares for the annual Fun Festival on Saturday August 1 with a full day of events at the Industrial Street recreation area. Swimming contests begin at 9 a.m. at the Rittman Pool followed by Little League activities, farm team pitching, and a Mardi Gras parade at 4 30 p.m. A chicken barbecue raises funds for an ice skating rink while adult softball, a swim show, and a teenage dance close the festivities. City officials and local groups sponsor the event.

United Mine Workers Local 12081 ratified a three-year deal with Morton Salt with an average wage rise of five cents this year and seven cents next year. The pact adds an extra paid holiday, lengthens probation, lowers retirement age to 65, and shifts some benefits from flat to income-based weekly sickness pay. Ratification was 94 to 46, with union and management representatives and a federal mediator steering the talks.

Fire Strikes Rittman Gas Tank at Orchard Scene
Fire touched off Tuesday morning at a 300 gallon gasoline storage tank near Rittman Orchard east of Rittman. Firemen from Rittman Volunteer Department battled flames shot high into the air and smoke visible for miles. The tank, just filled by a local supplier, caught fire from a smoldering tree stump. Fire crews sprayed water and remained nearly an hour, with the blaze confined to the tank and no injuries reported.

New Bleachers Planned for Rittman Football Field
Nine rows of new bleachers will rise on the east side of the Rittman football field, said School Superintendent W. H. Hauensein after a board meeting. The 84 foot structure seats 500 and costs 4500 dollars with installation included, from the Snvy der Tanks Corporation, to be completed by September 1.

Suzanne Wilson wins Miss Kankakee County 1965 crown
Suzanne Wilson of Rittman Ohio now a resident of Illinois captured the Miss Kankakee County title in 1965 as one of ten finalists. She earned the Miss Talent trophy for singing I'm in the Mood for Love and received votes from five judges. Suzanne, daughter of Mr and Mrs Taylor Wilson, will compete in Miss Illinois July 22 to 26 in Aurora.

Ni-Jac to Locate in Rittman
Ni-Jac Corporation will locate in Rittman leasing the Banders Building at East Ohio Avenue and Seneca Street with an option to buy. Nick Miga, company president, says headquarters will open July 15 in a 40 by 50 foot building with hiring starting in two weeks. The firm plans to sell Ni-Jac a arthritis remedy produced in Cleveland by Strong-Cobb-Arner Co. and distributed statewide within 30 days. Local officials and agencies helped secure the move.
