Dallas Welling, employed at the Ohio Boxboard factory in Rittman, enlisted January 6 as a ground mechanic in the Air Corps. He was sent to Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana and transferred January 12 to Keesler Field Biloxi Mississippi. His address is 309 School Squadron Flight 97 Barracks 14. He is a nephew of Mr and Mrs Roy Welling of 48 East Ohio Avenue.
The Rittman bomb squad, under the Cilia defense council, held a Monday meeting at the Haring restaurant naming air raid wardens. Leonng spoke on extinguishing bombs and using forms in air raid work. Qarehouse explained flag signals.
Senior class of Rittman High and Taylor class of Milton Rural School begin a two year reduced rate subscription campaign for Rittman Press. Proceeds support educational tours and activities, with price increases on April 1 1942 for subscriptions and newsstand sales.

The Rittman high school basketball team split a two game weekend series, edging Greensburg 26-25 on the local court Saturday after a 33-31 loss to Loudonville Friday on the Ashland county floor. Loudonville led the Central Buckeye league while Rittman slipped to four wins and five losses. Greensburg and Loudonville reinforced their top positions. Mowery led Loudonville with 13 points, Schmeltzer topped Rittman, and a late rally fell short as two final shots missed. The Red Birds pushed ahead by 16 in the third, the Indians fought back in the fourth, but the comeback ended just shy of the mark.
The Rktman high school cage team schedules a doubleheader this weekend at Miller sburg Friday and Smithville Saturday. After a close one point overtime loss to Miller sburg Spartans, Indiana hopes revenge and a climb in Central Buckeye League standings. Millersburg sits second to Loudonville Red Birds, with Indians third, while Smithville has struggled this season. The Indians aim to improve their form and capture another victory.
Rittman rationing board reports January tire sales with eight tires and six tubes certified. First applicant, G F Steele, bought a tire and tube for a company truck. Other certificates list several farmers and producers purchasing obsolete tires and tubes in January.
A court in Justice O G Ersihiat handled a case where several youths damaged tombstones in Milton Township. They agreed to pay damages for repair or replacement, with a 7% fine and costs. The fine is suspended if full damages and costs are paid.
Remodeling and enlarging of the Mennonite Old Folks Home south of Rittman at the junction of routes 4 and 6 has been completed this week. The expansion adds room for attendants and improves facilities for about 40 residents, making it one of the county s better institutions of its kind.
The Rittman Civilian Defense Council unanimously passed a resolution Friday night in the city building condemning hoarding of foodstuffs as unpatriotic and un-American. The meeting also heard committee reports and instructions on work phases from several chairmen.
