Hardgrove Is Named Jaycee Of The Year

JayCees honored Warren Hardgrove Denny Hile and Vernon Hoskinson for meritorious service at a Bosses Night dinner at Hale’s Restaurant. Hardgrove won JayCee of the Year for 100 hours spent building dugouts on Industrial Avenue. six members received tie bars for regional improvement. Ronald Garlick spoke on Fire Departments and public service. Don Goftinet as toastmaster announced the state convention in Youngstown and noted the February meeting will elect officers.

Minstrel Show In Rittman Promises Nostalgic Theme

Rittman’s annual minstrel show will feature a Remember When sequence and a traditional minstrel segment aimed at pleasing older residents and entertaining younger crowds. 800 Dairy Farmers Meet Here Saturday

Over eight hundred dairy farmers are expected to gather at Rittman High School Saturday for the Akron Milk Producers Inc 47th annual meeting. President William Ruttencutter will preside at 10 15 am with a keynote by Roger Buckley Akron Band Parents provide a ham dinner. Images of a lecture by J G Hays Michigan State on Bovine Architecture and remarks on a new bottling operation frame a full day of talks and awards including Young Cooperators and milk quality prizes. Band Concert Set for February 2 at Rittman High

Rittman High School will dedicate its winter band concert to doctors dentists nurses and pharmacists in recognition of medical staff in the community. The program Saturday February 2 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym will include marches overtures a narrated novelty piece and a flute section feature.

Packaging Corp of America adds half million dollar Harris press

The Rittman plant of The Packaging Corporation of America installed a new half million dollar Harris six color printing press. It is 59 by 16.7 by 11 feet, 65 days to install, and operates 24 hours on a three shift system. Inking 5,000 impressions per hour, the press reduces stoppages and supports growth. Edwin Taylor will head the press with Frank England and George Gilmore guiding startup.

Flower Show Set For May by Buckeye Garden Club

Buckeye Garden Club members plan a May flower show despite snow. Four members arranged another show during a Tuesday meeting hosted by Mrs James Shank. A film on Petunias Unlimited was shown to 14 attendees and January arrangements were displayed. February program will cover Planting and Pruning by a nursery man with Mrs Canl Galthouse as hostess assisted by Mrs Charles Grant.

Chairman Dale Wirth announced this week the annual Mothers March will begin in Sterling on Thursday January 31 at 7 p.m. Residents are asked to leave porch lights on to contribute to the March of Dimes.

First United Fund drive closes in Rittman with $14 350 36

The inaugural United Fund campaign in Rittman ended at a luncheon honoring captains and solicitors. Board President C E Rhonemus praised volunteers and donors as David Wright was named drive chair. Citations were presented to captains including Mrs William Maus and Tony Mirman, with certificates for canvassers and news coverage recognition.

Wadsworth Council Favors Hospital Report Move

Wadsworth City Council favored the Rittman Wadsworth Advisory Hospital Committee proposal but deferred action pending a resolution by City Solicitor Charles Johnarten. The measure will acknowledge the need for a new 109 bed hospital, approve no remodeling of the old facility, and arrange financing methods, with a special meeting set to frame the resolution before the February 5 regular session. Former Resident Dies From Wounds

Allen Mills 20 son of Mr and Mrs Robert D Mills 5224 Dickens Drive Baton Rouge former Rittman resident died Wednesday afternoon from gun shot wounds. He was a senior at Louisiana State University survived by parents three sisters Karen Linda Nancy and brother Stewart. Mrs James Black of Rittman sister of Robert Mills left by air for Baton Rouge to attend services in Baton Rouge on Saturday.

Mills Brothers Circus to Visit Rittman April 25

The Mills Brothers Circus returns to Rittman under Rotary Club sponsorship with two shows on April 25. Rotary President John Zivick, also event chairman, says the show offers many acts to delight both young and old. Tickets go on sale soon.

New Junior High Principal Hired for Rittman

Rittman Junior High School will get a new principal next month after Myron Steiner resigned to become Wayne County Commissioner. Thomas J Spear, currently a teacher and elementary principal in Arndale School District, has been extended a one year contract and will take over in early February. Spear, a Taylor University alumnus from Uvford Indiana with a master’s from Michigan State University, will live on North Metzger Avenue and earn 37080 for a 10 month term.

Select Citizen Of The Year At Dinner Thursday

The Chamber of Commerce annual dinner will name the Citizen of the Year next Thursday night. Three judges will meet early in the week to choose from five nominating letters. Tickets are available at the Bedager Agency in German. Selections and speeches will highlight the event with local leaders speaking.

Credit Union Holds Election at 22nd Annual Meeting

The Akron area credit union elected directors to its board at Hale's Restaurant. Joe Felix, since 1950, Paul Baker, Francis Fetzer of Rittman, Harry W Reese of Sterling, and Rudy Mullooster of Wooster were named. Roy Van Nostran, Carl Adams, and Paul Copley join the credit committee. Felix was named president with Ron Wovat as vice president, Jacqueline Pereira as treasurer, and Francis Fetzer as secretary. A 5 percent dividend was declared. Music by John Snyder, Marvin Baum, and Gene Burkhart complemented the event along with performances by Bria Rutlan High School Choral Ties and Avery Kinch with a violin solo.
