Rittman Teachers Seek Higher Pay From Board

Rittman Education Association spokesman Wayne Kornhaus urged a $250 per teacher raise at a Rittman Board of Education meeting. He compared college graduates’ salaries to teacher pay and noted time spent beyond classroom hours. School officials promised to study the proposal as principals cited costs of seminars and substitute coverage.

Graveside services for two day old Steven Fry held Thursday

Graveside services set for 10 30 a m Thursday for Steven Michle Fry two day old son of Vernon Jr and Iva Resol Fry. He died Tuesday at Akron General Hospital. Fire department reports six fires in 1967, an average about one every three days, all between January 7 and 16. Incidents included a 1961 Thunderbird burned in Central Park parking lot tied to Rosie Bradley, a heater fire at Clyde Miller’s 44 Salt Street home, furnace blower motor blaze at Merle Heffelman’s East Sunset Extension, a 1964 pickup damaged at Dee Cook’s property, a Joseph McElne farm fire, and a January 12 blaze at Rittman Dump along Route 70.

Sister Of Rittmanites Dies

Sister of Mrs. Olive Halliwell and William Mills died after a long illness. Burial was in Rittman. Mrs. Borland, a lifetime resident, belonged to Sterling Evangelical United Brethren Church. Rev. Robert Combs officiated. She leaves two sons Marion of Wadsworth and Leonard of Seville, plus grandchildren and other descendants.

PTA Musical Rehearsal Set For Rittman Show

James Griffith of Riftman age 36 was indicted by a Wayne County grand jury for forgery. The 15 member jury was headed by foreman Carl D. Graber.

City Council to review United Disposal contract

Rittman City Council plans to extend the six month contract with United Disposal at next Monday night’s meeting. A special session last week involving contractors, the city and township discussed dump operations and new fee structures for dam use, with residents charged 25 cents and non-residents 50 cents per car load. The Nov termination notice hinges on United Disposal’s performance in the interim.

Box Car Find: Daniel Baker Found In Baltimore and Ohio Car

Daniel Baker 81 was found in a locked B and O boxcar near Baltimore last week. He was identified via a welfare worker and Earl Raines of Rittman, a B&O car inspector. Baker, from Philadelphia, was hospitalized in fair condition and later reported with frostbite. No relatives or permanent address located.

After being missing since dismissal from school, Sherry Buckholdt returned home five blocks away with neighbors and family relief. Her mother Mrs Gary Buckholdt 55 Ganyard expressed gratitude as the neighborhood celebrated the safe reunion.
